The Rise Of Nigeria Hollywood Star John Boyega: From The Streets Of Peckham London To A Galaxy Far, Far Away

A London actor from a rough estate in Peckham is now set for stardom as the hero in the new Star Wars movie.
John Boyega, 23, features extensively in the two-and-a-half minute trailer which social media joked 'broke the internet' when it went online for the first time this week ahead of the new movie's release.
Tickets for Stars Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens went on sale on Monday – despite not opening in cinemas for another two months. The response from fans crashed cinema websites.

But John went on toe a prestigious acting school were teachers quickly recognised his talent. Here he is pictured with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Samuel L Jackson, at the school which led him to the role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Boyega is set to be propelled to stardom after being hand-picked to play the role of hero Finn in the film, which is already being seen as a contender to become the highest grossing of all time.
But the 23-year-old's path to Hollywood started on a tough North Peckham estate where his own life was touched by one of the capital's most notorious murders.

His sister Grace was the last friend to see 10-year-old Damilola Taylor alive before he was stabbed to death on a stairwell close to Boyega's family home.
The Boyega family were close to Damilola and his parents Richard and Gloria, and classmate Grace had cared for him after he arrived in Britain from Nigeria in 1999.

Fans pointed out that one major absence from the two-minute trailer was Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker who, although credited to appear in the new film, has not been seen in any of the promotional material.
On Monday the Vue chain alone sold 10,000 tickets in the first 90 minutes of business. Odeon took ‘tens of thousands’ of bookings before lunchtime and ‘thousands’ each hour throughout the afternoon.
Both said the film was already the most pre-booked since their records began. So many tickets have been sold that extra showings have been added into cinema schedules, with some planning to screen the film 24 hours a day during its opening week.
