Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako has commenced the process of formally defect to the All Progressive Congress, APC, saying that the party was democratic and meets his expectations.
Nyako had in the recent past instructed chairmen and commissioners in his administration to defect to the defunct ANPP before the merger. His associates are already key members of the APC in Adamawa State.
The governor expressed his interest to formally join APC at a Sallah get-together with APC North East Vice Chairman, Alhaji Umaru Duhu at the Government House, Yola. The APC Vice Chairman at the celebration presented a traditional invitation to him to cross carpet.
According to the governor: “I don’t have your card and have not requested for one, but I admire your APC governors for the feats they have achieved.
“The era when few Abuja people decide the destiny of who becomes what during election is over; we have vowed never to submit to the whims of “Ogogoro consumers who think they can manipulate the electoral process at all times”
Earlier, the APC Zonal Vice Chairman, Umaru Nuhu told Nyako that he had the instruction of the National Bisi Akande to extend the formal invitation. He said at present, there were already 300,000 Nyako supporters in the APC.
On the plan by Nyako to defect, spokesman of the nPDP, Chukwuemeka Eze stated that defection was one of the options being explored by the Baraje faction and G-7 governors in case negotiations with Jonathan and Tukur fail to yield results.
Scan News gathered that Governor Chibuike Amaechi and Babangida Aliyu have already opened secret negotiations with the APC. Amaechi’s defection team is led by his Chief of Staff, Tony Okocha. The decision to open that front was reached after President Jonathan categorically told Amaechi at the last meeting that the party structure would never by ceded to him in Rivers State.
For Aliyu, the new romance between former military President Ibrahim Babagida and President Jonathan may have necessitated his decision. The President has held series of meetings with Babangida and his associates from Niger State in which Aliyu was never invited.
Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State and Aliyu Wammako of Sokoto State are at present discussing with Muhammadu Buhari before they would know their next line of action. They trio have held at least two meetings with Buhari in the last two weeks.
The man in the dark is the governor of Kwara State, Mr Abdulfatah Ahmed. He is the only first term governor on the list, tied to the apron string of Bukola Saraki, whom he served as a commissioner. However, associates of Late Olusola Saraki have asked him to make peace with Jonathan. He has already started the process.
