20 Year Old Nigerian Emerges Best Graduating Student at Dillard University


20-year-old Merrilyn Akpapuna is a Psychology Major and Business Management Minor who emerged the best graduating student at the Dillard University, New Orleans. She obtained the highest academic honour Summa Cum Laude (first class) – with a cumulative grade point average of 4.0. Meaning, she literally made an A in every course she took during her four year study at Dillard University

As the institution’s valedictorian, Merrilyn had the honours of sitting on the same podium with the wife of the President, Michelle Obama, during the university convocation.
Merrilyn’s brilliant history stems as far back as her school days in Nigeria.


Her other awards and recognition include;

The Daniel C. Thompson/Samuel Dubois Cook Honours Programme, Phi Eta Sigma Freshman Honour Society, Dean’s List of Scholars, 1st Place for exceptional work in Algebra Relay, National Institute of Science, Beta Kappa Chi Honour Society, Alpha Kappa Mu national Honour Society, and Psi Chi National Honour Society.

Marrilyn made a cumulative grade point average of 4.0. In other words, she made an A in every course she took during her four years study at Dillard.  She was also the best student in her class in the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination at the Reagan Memorial Baptist Girls Secondary School, Yaba, Lagos before she proceeded to study on a full scholarship in Dillard University.
