A Stanmore man has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl in 1991.
John Hayford , 84 (19.11.30), formerly of Stanmore, was found guilty at Harrow Crown Court of sexual assault of a child under 13 on 5 December 2014.
Today, Friday, 16 January, he was sentenced to two years imprisonment at Harrow Crown Court.
In 2012, Hayford handed himself in to Police following a BBC Crimewatch appeal for a man who had sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl in a Stanmore supermarket.
A second victim was identified during the investigation who had previously come forward in 2000, alleging that Hayford had sexually abused her at an address in Stanmore in 1991.
This investigation was re-opened and on 23 August 2012 Hayford attended Harrow Police Station in relation to this allegation.
During the police interview, Hayford denied the offence, saying that it was a conspiracy against him and that the allegation was all lies made by people jumping on the band wagon because he had appeared on a BBC Crimewatch television appeal.
After a long and protracted police investigation and a review of all of the evidence, Hayford was charged with sexual assault of a child under 13.
Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Janine Stevenson said: "This has been a long and challenging investigation for all concerned. The victim and witnesses in this case have shown considerable patience, determination and courage throughout the investigation and subsequent trial. I do hope that the incarceration of this sexual predator will provide some closure for the victim and a measure of satisfaction for the witnesses.”
“I urge victims of sexual abuse to report any incidents to police. This case clearly demonstrates that offences of a sexual nature will not be tolerated and are fully investigated no matter how long ago they occurred.

ReplyDeleteIt seems like some of the written text on your content are running off the screen. Can somebody else please provide feedback
and let me know if this is happening to them too?
This could be a problem with my browser because I've had this happen before.

What you published was actually very reasonable.
ReplyDeleteHowever, what about this? what if you were to write a awesome title?
I ain't suggesting your information is not good, however
what if you added a title that grabbed people's attention? I mean "84YR OLD MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 7YR OLD" is a little
plain. You could peek at Yahoo's home page and watch how they write article headlines to get viewers interested.
You might add a video or a related pic or two to
get readers excited about what you've got to say.
In my opinion, it might make your posts a little livelier.
