Ebola scare at Gatwick: Fears disease may reach Britain grow after passenger collapsed and died after getting off flight from Sierra Leone

Fears that Ebola may reach Britain intensified last night after a passenger from a flight which stopped in Sierra Leone died at Gatwick airport.

The 72-year-old woman became ill and collapsed after she left a Gambia Bird jet arriving from the West African country.

A total of 826 people have died in Africa as a result of an outbreak of the deadly virus which began in February - 256 of these lived in Sierra Leone.

A mother-of-two who used six credit cards to pay for cosmetic surgery at Harley Street clinics has walked free from court after being convicted of fraud. 

Thelma Idahosa from Bromley, south east London, spent £8,500 on a number of procedures and even asked for a refund when she complained not enough fat had been removed during a liposuction. 

The graduate, 29, forked out thousands for surgeries on her thighs, stomach, arms and ‘love handles’, as well as skin-tightening procedures, using 'stolen credit card details'. 

She was given a six-month suspended prison sentence at Woolwich Crown Court and was told she would have been jailed if it had not been for her young children.

As the deadly Ebola epidemic continues to wreck havoc on West African countries, the Lagos state government on Sunday stepped up its surveillance to ensure infected nationals of affected countries sneak into Nigeria.

Ebola: Lagos Confirms 2 People Who Came In Contact With Dead Liberian Victim Down With Fever

The Lagos State Government on Friday said two persons out of those who had contact with Patrick Sawyer, the dead Liberian Ebola victim, have manifested symptoms of fever.

The Commissioner for Health, Jide Idris, made the disclosure when he addressed journalists on the update of the country`s first Ebola case in Ikeja.

Mr. Idris said the two persons were among the 70 contacts being monitored and investigated for any symptoms of the disease by the state government and other partners.

The commissioner, who said the two cases were under observation, however stressed that they did not test positive to the virus.

An Islamic cleric in Ilorin simply known as Alfa Gani has been arrested by the police for trying to use a new baby he just christened placenta for rituals.
