Funke Akindele And Husband In Court Over House Party - Plead Guilty To Social Distancing Violation

Celebrated Nollywood Actress, Funke Akindele and her husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello is popularly known as JJSkillz, have pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of hosting a gathering of 20 persons and over, contrary to the social distancing directives of the Lagos State Government.

The actress and her husband were arraigned on Monday at the Samuel Ilori Courthouse of the Magistrate Court in Ogba, Lagos.

The charge against them is made pursuant to Regulation 8(1a &b) and S 17(1) of the State’s Infectious Disease Regulation 2020.

Bishop Emmanuel Chukwuma Holds Church Service, Dares Government On Lockdown

Archbishop of the Enugu Province and Bishop of Enugu Anglican Diocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, yesterday, said the Province will not shut any of its branches over Coronavirus pandemic.

Chukwuma who faulted the order of government for churches and places of worship not to open said it was unfortunate and wrong to categorise church and worship centres with drinking parlours, night clubs, markets and companies.

The cleric said he would not shut the churches because he is not the owner, as the church belongs to Jesus Christ, adding that if people were stopped from “running to their God in worship in a time like now the whole world was confusion, where would they run to for safety, help and deliverance?”

A Tiger At The Bronx Zoo Has Tested Positive For The Coronavirus

A 4-year-old tiger at the Bronx Zoo has tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the Wildlife Conservation Society.

The Malayan tiger named Nadia had developed a dry cough along with six other tigers at the Bronx Zoo, and all are expected to recover. It's the first known case of a tiger contracting the virus.

“We tested the cat out of an abundance of caution and will ensure any knowledge we gain about COVID-19 will contribute to the world’s continuing understanding of this novel coronavirus,” the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo said in a statement.

Gov Yahaya Bello, suspends Commissioner accused of physically and sexually assaulting a lady over a Facebook post

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has ordered the immediate suspension of the state Commissioner for Water Resources, Abdulmumuni Danga, who has been accused of rape.

Recall that Elizabeth Oyeniyi, a resident of the state, has accused Danga of physically and sexually assaulting her over a Facebook post she made about him on her page on March 29th.

Oyeniyi had published a post asking the Commissioner to be generous to his immediate family as he is with members of the public. The coronavirus death toll in the United States tipped over 7,000 on Friday with 1,084 new deaths in the last 24 hours. 

The national total now stands at 7,164 deaths and 277, 999 cases, a jump of 32,234 new cases since Thursday. 

New York City remains the epicentre of the outbreak with 57,159 cases. The Big Apple's deaths reached 1,867 on Friday, recording 305 new deaths since Thursday. 

The state's death rate also hit a new high on Friday with 23 people dying every hour through the last 24-hour period. Deaths total 2,935 and there are 103,060 confirmed cases of the virus, as of Friday evening.
