Trump Administration Drops Directive On International Students And Online Course

The Trump administration on Tuesday rescinded a policy that would have stripped visas from international students whose courses move exclusively online amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The move comes after the policy announcement last week sparked a flurry of litigation beginning with the suit brought by Harvard and MIT, followed by California's public colleges and later a coalition of 17 states.

Judge Allison Burroughs, a federal district judge in Boston who was expected to preside over oral arguments in the Harvard-MIT, made the surprise announcement at the beginning of the court proceedings Tuesday.

Dead Man Forced Out Of Casket In Anambra For Refusing To Be Buried (Graphic)

A viral video that recently surfaced online has captured the moment a dead man was forced out of his casket for refusing to be transported home for burial in Anambra State.

In the video, a young man is seen chanting some words on the dead body while it was in the casket.

Coming after this, he dragged out the corpse and carried him on his shoulder and transported him to the burial ground while the people of the community hailed the young man who summons the courage to transport the dead body.

Magu Failed To Account For 332 Recovered Property

The suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has again been accused of failing to give a proper account of missing 332 – out of the 836 recovered – real estate property in March 2018.

Magu has not specifically reacted to the latest allegations, but he has always maintained he did nothing wrong.

Magu is reported to have written to the Inspector-General of Police in which he “provided both documentary and oral evidence to clear the air on all the allegations.”

His counsel last weekend said Magu had submitted video and documentary evidence to Attorney-General Abubakar Malami before now and would produce more to shame critics.

Akeredolu Disqualified By Screening Committee, Announcement Expected Soon

Although, the alleged disqualification of the governor was yet to be made public, it was reliably gathered that some bigwigs in the party, who got wind of the situation, had intervened to save Governor Akeredolu from the embarrassment of not participating in the exercise.

There is currently anxiety in government circle in Ondo State following the alleged disqualification of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu from the party's governorship primary election by the All Progressives Congress screening committee.

Although, the alleged disqualification of the governor was yet to be made public, it was reliably gathered that some bigwigs in the party, who got wind of the situation, had intervened to save Governor Akeredolu from the embarrassment of not participating in the exercise.

It was learnt that Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, was leading moves to get the disqualification overturned.

The Minister of Niger Delta, Senator Godswill Akpabio yesterday said endemic corruption, lack of patriotism and the entrenched culture of patronage had crippled the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from delivering its mandate to the people of the region in the last 19 years of its operations.

Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, also said all these challenges informed the decision of the federal government to commission forensic audit into NDDC’s operations between 2001 and 2019, noting that the report of the forensic audit would be ready before the end of the year.

The Nigerian man who was filmed being tortured by a dreaded Pakistani gang after he was used as collateral has been identified as Ekenedirichukwu Innocent Chima.

A video of him has been released to assure Nigerians of his safety after a group of wealthy Igbo men came to his rescue and contacted the gang leader, Nuruz, to let him know as they will pay to secure Chima's release. They also assured Chima that they will not abandon him in Pakistan.

Apparently, their video was shown to Chima and he also recorded a video of his own to thank the Igbo men working to save him.

Malami: I Didn’t Buy ₦300 Million Abuja House For My Son

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) on Saturday denied buying a N300 million house for his newly wedded son, Abdulazeez, in Abuja.

Malami, in a statement issued by his media aide, Umar Gwandu, also dismissed as untrue claims in a social media report that COVID-19 guidelines were flouted during Abdulazeez’s wedding fatiha held in Kano yesterday.

He daubed the report mischievous, deceitful, perfidious and “a clear violation of ethical journalism practices on verification of facts and authentication of claims.”

He challenged his accusers to name the vendor of the purported house and its location and to publish the title documents.

President Trump Finally Wears A Face-Mask In Public For The First Time

The president was visiting the Walter Reed military hospital outside Washington, where he met wounded soldiers and health care workers.

"I've never been against masks but I do believe they have a time and a place," he said as he left the White House.

He has previously said that he would not wear a mask and mocked Democratic rival Joe Biden for doing so.

But on Saturday he said: "I think when you're in a hospital, especially in that particular setting, where you're talking to a lot of soldiers and people that, in some cases, just got off the operating tables, I think it's a great thing to wear a mask."

The change of tone came as the US recorded 66,528 coronavirus cases on Saturday, a new daily record.

President Buhari Appoints Umar As EFCC Acting Chairman Following Magu’s Suspension

President Buhari has appointed Mohammed Umar as the new Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

This is coming after the arrest and subsequent suspension of Ibrahim Magu who earlier occupied the position until Monday when DSS operatives took him in for questioning.

Umar’s appointment was announced in a statement by Abubakar Malami, Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) through his media aide, dr. Umar Jibril Gwandu.

The statement reads:

Reverend Joseph Ma’aji Remanded For Raping His 16-Year-Old House Maid

A Reverend, Joseph Ma’aji of Barnawa, Kaduna, accused of raping his 16-year-old housemaid, was on Tuesday remanded in the custody of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) by a Chief Magistrate Court in Kaduna.

The Chief Magistrate, Bashir Shittu, ordered that Ma’aji be remanded pending advice from the office of the state Director of Public Prosecution.

The Magistrate said that the court lacked the power to try the accused, who was arraigned over allegation of rape.

“However, the law said one should be taken to the nearest court, that is why you are brought here pending when the police will conclude their investigations and send the case file to lawyers in the ministry of justice.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mike Ozekhome, has claimed that he wrote vice-president, Yemi Osinbajo in 2017, giving several warnings that the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, was looting funds.

Magu was on Tuesday, suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari, after he was arrested and detained by security operatives in Abuja on Monday.

Magu’s travails was followed by a memo by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, in which Magu was accused of mishandling the recovered loot and selling seized assets to associates.

NIDCOM reacts to the video of a Nigerian man being tortured by a dreaded Pakistani gang after he was used as a collateral by his brother who owes the gang

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, has reacted to the harrowing footage of a Nigerian man crying and begging that he has only days to live as a dreaded Pakistani gang tortured him because his "brother" owes them.

According to reports, the man's brother named Andrew used him as collateral for a business with the group. However, as Andrew didn't show up to pay what he owes, the gang tortured the human collateral he left behind and filmed it to serve as a warning

In the video (see here) the Nigerian man is seen begging his uncle to sell everything they have and pay a man called Nuruz otherwise he will be killed on July 10.

CAC pastor arrested for allegedly raping his daughter in Ogun (photo)

44-year-old Pastor Oluwafemi Oyebola of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Ogo Oluwa parish in Ogun state, has been arrested by men of the state police command for allegedly raping his daughter on several occasions, getting her pregnant three times and forcing her to go through abortions each time.

The accused pastor was arrested following a complaint by his 24-year-old daughter. The victim had reported at the Owode-Egbado divisional headquarters that her father has been forcefully having sex with her since 2015 shortly after the demise of her mother. She told the Police that she got pregnant for her father three times but he took her to a nurse who terminated the pregnancies, each time 

''We don't want the bridge to collapse''- Ministry of Works speaks on why 3rd mainland bridge is being shut for a period of six months

The Ministry of Works and Housing, says there is no going back in the proposed plan to shut the third mainland bridge for a period of six months beginning from July 24.

According to the Ministry, the repairs are necessary so as to avert a collapse of the bridge. 

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday, July 8, the Controller of Works, Federal Ministry of Works, Mr. Olukayode Popoola, said the bridge was last rehabilitated in 2012 and that it is important repairs are carried out now to avert a collapse of the ever-busy bridge.

According to Popoola, the first three months would be used to carry out work on the part of the bridge coming from the Lagos Island to the Mainland, while work on the other portion of the bridge coming from Oworonsoki to Lagos Island would begin three months later.
