Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi or FAR as she’s known to her
close friends is one woman who seems to have it all - a loving husband,
beautiful son and a thriving career.
The acclaimed actress is the perfect picture of poise and elegance
during the TW cover shoot and interview. Yet there is something
exquisitely serene about her. It’s the glow of a woman basking entirely
in her role as a mother – the ultimate protector and caregiver. When
asked if it’s been difficult making the transition from being a working
actress always on set to becoming a new mother she replies, “I’m never
going to see him at two weeks again. I’m never going to see him at three
months again. So I sap each stage as much as possible. I’m enjoying
every moment.” The recipient of all the adoration is her six-month-old
son, Xavier who has clearly brought a lot of warmth and happiness into
her life. With an acting career that’s spanned over a decade and
included roles in blockbuster movies like Violated, as well as popular television shows, Palace and Tinsel, Funlola is the consummate professional. Still, this new softer side of her nature is one she is also wholeheartedly embracing.
Becoming a mother is unarguably a life-changing experience. The act
of giving life to another human being often puts our own existence as
women into sharp focus. And as actresses and radio presenter Funlola
Aofiyebi-Raimi cradles her infant son, Xavier in her arms, two things
are immediately clear: the first is that she’s in love with her little
bundle of joy. The second by her own admission is that she is a changed
woman. When discussing the emotions motherhood has brought to the
surface she admits, “I’m shocking myself.”
When asked about the type of man she would like to raise her son to
be, she laughingly replies, “this is going to sound so cheesy - a
responsible man, someone like his father.”
