The Abacha family thought they had done Nigeria a favour by giving up $1.3 billion but the Goodluck Jonathan administration soon discovered that they still had $1 billion hidden in various accounts in Europe, according to Mohammed Bello Adoke.

Using the Nigerian legal system, Mohammed Abacha, the eldest surviving son of the late head of state, had tried to stop the federal government from seizing the looted funds and repatriating them to Nigeria, but “a simple trick” outsmarted him, the former attorney-general further said.

In his book, “Burden of Service: Reminiscences of Nigeria’s former Attorney-General”, Adoke insinuated that the Abacha family was so offended by his doggedness in the loot recovery that they found allies in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to hound him after he left office in 2015.

Nigerian Police Releases Photograph Of Killers Of Afenifere Leader’s Daughter

The Nigerian police force has released a photograph of the men responsible for the murder of Funke Olakunrin, daughter of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, leader of Pro-Yoruba group, Afenifere.

In a statement on Thursday, the police also released the names of the murderers.

“Police Operatives have arrested the killers of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, daughter of the leader of the PAN-Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti.”

'I Mistakenly Raped 4-Year-Old Girl' – Suspect

Boniface, a resident of forest community of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State Isaac Boniface, a resident of forest community of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, yesterday said he mistakenly raped a four-year-old girl in his compound.

The 20-year-old suspect was among the 25 suspects paraded by the Police in Plateau State for various criminal activities. He told our reporter that he knew the incident was a devilish act, but that “It was a mistake”, adding that he committed the offence one morning. The State Police Commissioner, Issac Akinmoyede told journalists that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as possible.

He explained that other suspects paraded include those arrested for kidnapping, armed robbery and gun running in the state. He added that a fraudster, who claimed to be making magic dollar, was among those arrested.

According to reports, the Anambra state police command have arrested two ”one chance” robbery suspects and their female accomplices.

A statement from the command says the suspects were arrested after their failed attempt to rob a 30-year-old woman, Nwanye Philomina of her N400, 000 on Tuesday July 30th.

A jilted man, Abiodun Atinuke, has been arrested and charged before Ijeshatedo Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos State, western Nigeria, for allegedly hiring assassins to kill his ex-wife. The 34-year old suspect allegedly hired three men now at large and paid them an undisclosed amount of money to assassinate his ex-wife Eniola for dumping him for another man six months after their marriage.

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, whose country's effort to subdue Boko Haram has been largely ineffective, declared in a speech Thursday that the terror group's abductions of schoolgirls would be its undoing.

"I believe the kidnap of these girls will be the beginning of the end for terror in Nigeria," he said at the opening of the World Economic Forum meeting in Abuja.

The abductions and an attack this week that left more than 300 people dead have focused worldwide attention on Nigeria's fight with terrorists.

17 People Arrested in Drug Raids in Oldham - Greater Manchester Police

16 Men and 1 Woman have been arrested in raids as part of an operation to crackdown on drug dealing in Oldham.
They were arrested when officers from Greater Manchester Police raided 14 addresses just after 6am today, Wednesday 30 April 2014.
Officers from Oldham’s Operation Caminada Organised Crime Unit launched the operation, codenamed Operation Alamos, as their response to community concerns that street drug dealing was a problem in the area.
This operation forms part of Operation Challenger, which is the Force’s strategy for tackling organised crime groups across Greater Manchester.
These arrests came after months of investigations by officers from the Oldham Organised Crime Unit into the distribution of heroin.

A school bus belonging to a private school has been hijacked on Tuesday morning, May 6, 2014 in Nyanya district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The bus hijacked by the gunmen belongs to Vine International Academy.

The bus was reportedly taken over by the gunmen as the bus arrived the school premises to drop off students for the new school day.
The school proprietress, Mrs Fola Kolade, has confirmed the hijack. “They tried to enter the school but they couldn’t. No children were taken but they took our school bus,” she said.
According to Kolade, all pupils of the school are safe.

THE police in Rivers State have arrested a 29-year-old man, Kingsley Ekerete, who killed his seven-year-old daughter over a plate of boiled rice in Obimama, Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state.
Kingsley Ekerete, 29, a commercial driver who hails from Nto Osung community in Ikot Ekpene Local Area of Akwa Ibom State, holds just a First Leaving Certificate and has to drive his bus daily through the bustling traffic of Port Harcourt to make ends meet and put food on the table for his young family.
Judging from his looks, no one would have taken him for a murderer or imagined that he is capable of killing his own child.

B/Haram Takes Abducted Borno School Girls To Chad & Cameroon And Allegedly Marries Them Off for N2,000 Each

The over 200 Chibok, Borno State school girls abducted by Boko Haram, have allegedly been moved out of Nigeria by the terrorists.

According to several news sources, including Daily Trust, most of the girls were reportedly taken to Chad and Cameroon, where they have been married off to sect members for a bride price of N2,000 each.

The female students were taken from their hostels at the Government Girls Secondary School Chibok on the night of April 14.
About 40 had escaped in the days after the incident, but parents and school authorities said at least 234 of them were yet to be found.
