Mysterious Deaths Hit Hadejia LG In Jigawa, Over 100 Dead

Over a hundred people are said to have died within the last ten days in Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The Special Assistant to the Local Council Chairman on Media, Sani Kakabori who spoke to Channels Television says an average of ten people mostly above the ages of fifty dies every day for the last ten days, in the local government.

However, the state government has established a five-man committee to investigate the issue and recommend appropriate actions.

Crude Oil Fall: 84 million Barrels of Nigerian Crude Stranded At Sea

An estimated 84 million barrels of Nigerian crude oil is currently stranded at sea, a report by Wall Street Journal has said.

In an April 27 report, the newspaper said cargo ships filled with Nigerian crude had nowhere to go and Nigerian oil companies were competing to fill the “last few empty tankers still left at sea”.

The tankers are reported to be coming from production fields managed by Royal Dutch Shell and Exxon Mobil.

According to experts, it would be risky to shut down production in some oil fields as the wells are “too old to be restarted once they go idle”.

US Blocks Nigeria’s Purchase Of Chinook Helicopters From Israel

Efforts by the Nigerian military to procure US-made Chinook helicopters from Israel, to facilitate the movement of troops and the injured, have been blocked by the United States Government, THISDAY has learnt.

This, among other issues, including the US’ refusal to provide Nigeria’s security agencies with timely intelligence needed to defeat Boko Haram insurgents who have been riding rough shod in the North-east, would form part of the discussions when President Goodluck Jonathan meets with US President Barack Obama in New York this week.

Jonathan departed for New York on Sunday for the 69th General Assembly of the United Nations.

The Chinook is a versatile and reliable American twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter produced by Boeing. Its primary roles are troops movement, artillery placement and battlefield resupply.

In a war where Boko Haram insurgents move in convoys through arid towns and villages, the helicopters are required to checkmate them, reinforce troops and supplies and recover dead and wounded soldiers.

Tinubu Tears Apart Ikimi; Says He’s A Devious Man With An Awful Past

Chieftain of the opposition All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has launched a blistering response to allegations made against him by a former Minister of External Affairs, Tom Ikimi.

 Mr. Ikimi, who last week left the APC and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], had blamed Mr. Tinubu for his ordeals while in the opposition party.

He said the former governor hijacked the party and was now using his vantage position in the fold to frustrate anyone who could stand up to him.

Nigeria’s homegrown, al-Qaeda linked militant group, Boko Haram, brags openly that it recently kidnapped about 300 young Nigerian girls. It boasts that it will sell them into sexual slavery.

Those terrorists have a long and unapologetic history of murdering kids who dare to enroll in school, and Christians in general. For years, Western aid groups have pleaded with the State Department to at least put Boko Haram on the official list of terrorist groups. But former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s team was reluctant to come down so harshly, in apparent worry that some might interpret such condemnation as potentially offensive to Islamic sensitivities.

Political gladiators in Oyo State spent the last six weeks fine-tuning a winning strategy for the 2015 general election, particularly the governorship contest. A series of nocturnal and daylight meetings have been held within and outside the state by the political actors in different camps across the four major parties in the state- the All Progressives Congress (APC), Accord Party, Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The first layer of the meetings was largely intra-party as it involved those in each of the camps in the parties. The second layer involved parties of “like-minds” and the third was composed of representatives of the parties. One of the striking features of the meetings is that it brought together politicians that sure pundits would consider as sworn political enemies.

A school bus belonging to a private school has been hijacked on Tuesday morning, May 6, 2014 in Nyanya district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The bus hijacked by the gunmen belongs to Vine International Academy.

The bus was reportedly taken over by the gunmen as the bus arrived the school premises to drop off students for the new school day.
The school proprietress, Mrs Fola Kolade, has confirmed the hijack. “They tried to enter the school but they couldn’t. No children were taken but they took our school bus,” she said.
According to Kolade, all pupils of the school are safe.

29-Year-Old Man Kills Daughter Over Plate Of Rice

THE police in Rivers State have arrested a 29-year-old man, Kingsley Ekerete, who killed his seven-year-old daughter over a plate of boiled rice in Obimama, Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state.
Kingsley Ekerete, 29, a commercial driver who hails from Nto Osung community in Ikot Ekpene Local Area of Akwa Ibom State, holds just a First Leaving Certificate and has to drive his bus daily through the bustling traffic of Port Harcourt to make ends meet and put food on the table for his young family.
Judging from his looks, no one would have taken him for a murderer or imagined that he is capable of killing his own child.
