Shocking Confession Of A DPO About What Goes On In Nigerian Police Stations
For whoever wants to know why inefficiency is the lot of the Nigeria Police, the starting point may be to closely watch the state of things at police stations across the country. - See more at: http://9jatv.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/shocking-confession-of-dpo-about-what.html#sthash.chJgM9DP.dpuf
Apart from the poor physical state of many of them, they are largely run on charity.
Investigations shows that some of the police stations in Nigeria get as low as N35,000 as allocation from the force headquarters per quarter.
This is the reason why in all the states of the federation, many police stations rely on philanthropic gestures from members of their host communities and proceeds of bribery to function effectively. And that is why inscriptions such as ‘Donated by Welders Association’, ‘Community Development Association’ are constant features on many items and facilities found in many police stations in the country.
From rehabilitation of buildings, to fuelling of patrol vans and generators that serve the stations, many Divisional Police Officers appear to have turned into beggars of some sort, asking for a certain amount of money to make a statement when one goes to report an incident.

Mum kills herself and two little boys: Double death at Dartmoor beauty spot, then police find toddler's body at home
Via - Daily Mail
A young mother killed herself and her five-year-old son by jumping 100ft off rocks at a beauty spot on Dartmoor yesterday.
Police believe Katharine Hooper, 24, also killed her younger son Samuel, aged two. The toddler’s body was found at her home 20 miles away.
Tourists said they saw Mrs Hooper put Joshua, five, on her shoulders before jumping off Haytor in Devon, a spot popular with ramblers.
Police opened a murder inquiry, but said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
Friends claimed Mrs Hooper had serious problems in her relationship, which were known to authorities.
She had gone missing a few weeks ago, prompting Devon and Cornwall police to launch a public appeal.
I sang like Kirk Franklin but failed —Asu Ekiye
He is one of the most popular gospel acts who have drawn attention to indigenous culture through music. Asu Ekiye talks more on his genre of music
You are quite energetic while performing, what’s the secret?
Yes. I am very energetic. That is the Niger Delta tradition-it is very forceful. I represent a cross section of the people of that area. I not only compose songs in my Ijaw language, I sing a lot of Urhobo, Isoko, Itsekiri and Edo songs. That is why they call me the Prince of the Niger Delta.
What’s your style of presentation?
We have added our own blend, a product of our own musical contraption and notation that are exogenous to the traditional flavour of the people of the Niger Delta. This is because we are trying to work with the contemporary age and create sounds that can meet the class. My style of presentation is very dramatic because I present with stories.
What challenges did you face when you were starting off in music?
I sang in the English language for many years. Then, I thought English would open doors for me internationally but that did not happen and I ended up in the Port Harcourt where I started.
Soyinka, an embarrassment – Patience Jonathan •Amaechi behind Rivers crisis – FG •Allegation baseless –Governor
Via - PUNCH
Wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, on Friday took on the Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, for attributing the crisis in the Rivers State House of Assembly to her.
In a statement by her spokesman, Ayo Osinlu, the President’s wife said Soyinka betrayed the moral duty that expected him, as a respected member of the society, to carefully consider all shades of issues that informed his opinions on any matter.
Mrs. Jonathan said Soyinka had become an embarrassment to his admirers with his diatribe against her.
The statement read in part, “Unfortunately, Soyinka betrayed moral duty in his recent diatribe against Mrs. Patience Jonathan.
“Of course, this would not be the first time he would reach out against the First Lady, usually from self-righteously indignant lecterns.
“In this particular instance, his verdict was that Mrs. Jonathan was ‘stoking the crisis currently rocking her home state of Rivers…’, and thereupon asked Mr. President to caution his wife.
“The good, old Prof. reminds one of the truth that indeed, most of the giants on the street are men of like passions like everyone else. Worse still, most of them are actually standing on clay feet and would fail the test of a gentle push.
Wole Soyinka Is Ignorant - Presidency
Via - Tribune
THE Presidency on Friday replied Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, on his position on the Rivers State crisis, describing him as ignorant while advising him to be “responsible.”
It has also laid the responsibility of the fracas in the Rivers State House of Assembly on Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who, it said, along with his aides personally participated in the Wednesday’s incident as the aggressors.
Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, told State House correspondents in Abuja on Friday that it was wrong to drag the name of President Goodluck Jonathan into the crisis as video evidence of incident clearly showed that the governor’s aides were the attackers.
Rivers crisis: Nothing must happen to Amaechi - APC govs *We're under siege here, he says *Soyinka blames Jonathan, wife
ALL the 11 governors of the yet-to-be registered All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday, formed a forum, christened Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), and warned that nothing must happen to the Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, while it also condemned the crisis in the state House of Assembly.
The governors are Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo; Babatunde Fashola of Lagos; Rauf Aregbesola of Osun; Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti; Adams Oshiomhole of Edo; Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun; Rochas Okorocha of Imo; Kashim Shettima of Borno; Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa; Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe and Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara.
The governors lamented that anti-democratic forces were using security agencies to threaten and intimidate the Rivers State governor.
"Anti-democratic forces are now using security agencies to threaten and intimidate Governor Amaechi and, in the process, engineer anarchy and endanger innocent lives and property in Rivers State.
"This is not only a condemnable act, but a gross abuse of power. We strongly call on President Goodluck Jonathan to not only exercise his moral authority, but also apply his constitutional responsibilities to ensure the restoration of peace and protection of the governor and all citizens.
"Should the crisis in Rivers State continue and anything happen to the governor or any official for that matter, the Nigerian leadership wouldn't be absolved of responsibility," they said.
The governors also condemned the crisis rocking the Rivers State House of Assembly, saying it was an attempt to create state of emergency in the state.

Latest Fad in China: Keychains Containing Live Turtles and Fish [Photos]
According to a news report on Chinese media, the hottest new fad in China involves selling a live fish, or a Brazilian turtle or a young giant salamander sealed up in airtight plastic bags as key rings. Each packet is about 7 centimeters in length and filled with colored water along with the imprisoned animal. The street vendors claim the water is nutrient rich, but they are not. Without oxygen and food the animals get to live for only a few days, if they are lucky. The most depressing part is that the whole thing is legal.

Last Saturday evening she started terrorising us again. I was in the sitting room with my three sons, Raymond 16, Leonard, ten, and Jerry, eight, when the all-too-familiar wailing started.
We'd just settled down with a Chinese takeaway to watch Batman Returns, excited about a lovely evening together after seeing off the smallest member of our family, six-year-old Ottoline, on a sleepover.
'See you tomorrow,' we trilled at her, waving her off. Then, out of earshot, the boys let out a whoop of delight.

Neighbours From Hell...Gang-Rape Disabled, Pregnant Victim
Via - The Sun
In years to come, haunting memories of June 4, 2013, will plague Mrs. Mary Kabiru, a 28-year-old expectant mother. It was the day she was allegedly assaulted, choked and gang-raped by her neighbours, who defied her pleas to be spared. Not even her condition as a disabled, poor pregnant woman could draw pity from the dark hearts of the assailants. Worst of all, these accused rapists are her neighbours.
The accused, two hefty men, pounced on her like hungry lions, ripped off her clothes and allegedly raped her right on her matrimonial bed.
Although she put up some resistance, she could not do much, given her condition. Besides, the splashing early morning rains drowned her cries for help, allowing her captors to have their way uninterrupted.
At the end of the illicit act, they left her with injuries and swollen eyes.
The worst is that, the Jikwoyi Police Station where the case was reported is being accused of attempts to sabotage investigation and consequent prosecution of the culprits, who are said to be walking the streets freely.

BEYONCE Bares All For ‘Flaunt’ Magazine, Talks Pepsi Controversy
Beyoncé has graced the covers of countless magazines in her day, but her latest spread with Flaunt Magazine is one that I predict will be etched into the minds of many for years to come. From The Archive(s): Remembering The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ife July 10, Cult Massacre
It is 14 years ago today since armed cultists stormed Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria and killed five students in the early hours of 10 July 1999. The slain students were George ‘Yemi’ Iwilade, the then General Secretary of OAU Students’ Union, Tunde Oke, a member of Democratic Socialist Movement (DSM), Efe Ekede, Eviano Ekelemu and Yemi Ajiteru. Lanre Adeleke, the then President of the OAU Students’ Union and a member of the DSM, escaped by a whisker, quickly running out of his room having heard gunshots apparently aimed at Ajiteru who slept a few rooms away.
There was a serious allegation that these blood-thirsty campus gangsters, members of the Neo-Black Movement (Black Axe), were sponsored by the then Vice-Chancellor of the university, Wale Omole, who was later disgraced out of office. Omole had a serious running battle with the Students’ Union, led by Lanre Adeleke, over independent student unionism, welfare conditions, financial recklessness and the reinstatement of Anthony Fasayo and other student activists who had been politically victimised since 1995. Indeed, one of the cultists, Kazeem Bello, aka Kato, confessed that Wale Omole had a hand in their dastardly operation.
The killing of the Ife 5 was not the first that had been linked to a devilish vice-chancellor. A few years earlier, Williams Obong, the General Secretary of the University of Benin Students Union, was murdered in broad daylight by cultists widely believed to have been sponsored by the vice-chancellor. Besides, it is an open secret that campus cultists had patrons within and outside the campuses.
10 Incredible Health Benefits Of Fasting.
Many people observe fasting as a religious obligation but only few know the health benefits it has. Fasting is a good practice, if properly implemented. It promotes elimination of toxins from the body, reduces blood sugar ans fat stores. It promote healthy eating habits and boost immunity. Here are top 10 health benefits you ca derive from fasting.
1. Fasting Promotes detoxification
Processed foods contain lots of additives. These additives may become toxins in the body. Some of them promote production of advanced glycation end products (AGEs). Most of these toxins are stored in fats. Fat is burnt during fasting, especially when it is prolonged. And the toxins are released. The liver, kidneys and other organs in the body are involved in detoxification.
2. Fasting Rests Digestive System
During fasting, the digestive organs rest. The normal physiologic functions continue especially production of digestive secretions, but at reduced rates. This exercise helps to maintain balance of fluids in the body. Breakdown of food takes place at steady rates. Release of energy also follows a gradual pattern. Fasting however does not stop production of acids in the stomach. This is reason patients with peptic ulcer are advised to approach fasting with caution. Some experts believe they should not fast.

The Cardinal Rule Of Wedding Guest Etiquette: Don't Wear White! - 5 Things You Should Not Do at a Wedding
Via - Huffington Post
It is summertime and wedding season is well underway. As I begin to receive multiple wedding invitations I cannot help but reflect on my own special day. There are numerous things I never thought I would have to tell people not to do but in many cases common sense is not so common. Here are a few tips you should consider NOT doing when attending your next wedding:
Don't Wear White. This should really be a no brainer but looking back at my wedding I cannot help but see how many women bravely showed up to my wedding in white dresses. The only woman in the entire room that should be wearing an all white dress is the bride and if you're attempting to outshine her, perhaps you should have stayed at home.
Don't Take Pictures Behind The Photographer. With all this new age technology and smartphones it is hard not to pull out your camera during a ceremony as celebratory as a wedding. While the bride herself will never tell you this she secretly hates that you are in her photographer's way attempting to take photos. In many cases the photographer has been paid a great sum of money to take the photos she is taking and for you to stand behind her and take the same photos is not only stealing the photographer's creative property but you're also taking up valuable space and potentially time that the photographer could have been using to take photos in places that you are now occupying.

All the teams were involved in promotion play-offs in which the winners would qualify to play in Nigeria Nationwide League Division 3.
Before this, Ghanaian clubs had the record of such scandalous goals but they didn’t score more than 25 goals.
Chairman of the NFF organising committee, Mike Umeh, who is also NFF First Vice President, said he was alarmed when informed and promptly directed that the four teams at the centre of the scandal be grounded, pending further sanctions on all involved.
“It is unacceptable. This is a scandal of huge proportions. The four teams involved are suspended immediately and indefinitely, pending further sanctions. We will investigate this matter thoroughly and get to the bottom of it,” Umeh said on Tuesday.

FORMER President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has declared that his interest in the unity and peace of Nigeria as a country transcends the boundaries of any political party.
Obasanjo made this statement while speaking at the 50th anniversary of Aare Afe Babalola’s call to the Nigerian bar.
Obasanjo, who was reacting to banter from Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi asking him to be a neutral player in Nigerian politics said “It does not matter where I put my gear, what matters to me is the interest of Nigeria and nothing can take that away from me.”
It all started at the commissioning of Afe Babalola & Co Head Office extension, opposite Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

He could barely wait for the interview to be concluded before exclaiming "How did you get to know so much about me?" Before an answer could come, he gushed, "this is the most engaging and detailed interview I ever had." When Law Editor and Lagos Bureau Chief, LANRE ADEWOLE sat with the legendary Aare Afe Babalola for this chat, the time allotted was 15 minutes. Hours into it, time went unnoticed as the reporter guided the iconic lawyer through the maze of his life, practice, controversies, reputations and success stories. It was Afe like-never-before.
Sir, the only formal education that can be credited to you was primary education?
Yes, the only formal education I had was at Emmanuel Primary School.
Your story is an amazing one because today you are a legend in the learned profession. Can you be regarded as the 8th wonder of the world?
Well, people have credited me with all that before but I don't see anything wonderful in it at all. I think the magic was the fact that I was sent to school at all. If I was not sent to school, I would probably have died as a poor farmer. The seed was sown by my father when he decided to send me to school and all the way, I had problems; each problem was surmounted and each victory over one made it easier for me to confront the next. So today, there is no amount of problem that would confront me that I cannot surmount. That is the secret of my success.
Dad Begs For Forgiveness for Defiling His Two Daughters
Policemen attached to Ikotun division in Lagos have arrested a man alleged to have been having carnal knowledge of his two daughters between the ages of 10 and 13, in the past two years.
His daughters reportedly claimed to have been going through what they described as horrible experience since their mother left them for another man.
Unable to resist their father, they endured until the elder girl confided in her friend's mother, who then contacted some child rights groups.
The organisations were said to have effected the man's arrest at his 29, Omooye Street, Abaranje, last Saturday and handed him over to policemen at Ikotun division.
Explaining, the elder child (names withheld) said: "Our father started it when I was 11 years old. I did not know he was doing same to my sister who was then eight years.
I only got to know when I saw her blood stained undies and when I demanded to know whether she had started seeing her monthly flow, she revealed that our father slept with her the previous night. He usually crept to either of us at night whenever he wanted to satisfy his urge. He was the one who dis-virgined us."

JABUTICABA: THE TREE THAT BEAR FRUITS on its TRUNK
Jabuticaba is largely eaten fresh, but because the fruit starts to ferment just 3-4 days after harvest, they are often used to make jams, tarts, strong wines, and liqueurs. Due to the extremely short shelf-life, fresh Jabuticaba fruit is very rare in markets outside of areas of cultivation. The fruit also has many medicinal uses. Traditionally, an astringent decoction of the sun-dried skins has been used as a treatment for hemoptysis, asthma, diarrhoea, and gargled for chronic inflammation of the tonsils. It also has several potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory anti-cancer compounds.
Although the Jabuticaba grows in most regions of Brazil, it’s found mostly in Minas Gerias. It’s association with the state is so strong that the Jabuticaba tree appears on the coat of arms of the city of Contagem, and another city in Minas Gerais, Sabará, hosts a Jabuticaba festival annually.
