In any criminal trial, the onus of proving the guilt against an accused person arraigned before a court of law beyond reasonable doubt rest squarely on the prosecution unless in some special cases when the prosecution closes its case having called witnesses to testify against an accused person.
The suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, on Friday, entered the dock to answer to charges of alleged breach of the code of conduct for public officers.
Onnoghen’s lawyer, Chris Uche (SAN), announced his presence shortly after the tribunal chairman, Danladi Umar led two other members to the courtroom.

Suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, has left the premises of the Code of Conduct Tribunal CCT after he pleaded not guilty to the six charges levelled against him by the Federal government.
He was granted bail by the tribunal on self-recognition.
The trial was adjourned till March 11th.
Onnoghen arrived at the CT premises this morning, two days after a bench warrant for his arrest was issued by the Tribunal. The bench warrant has since been withdrawn.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on February 11, 2019, arraigned one Lilian Bisi Kadiri before Justice Adebukola Banjoko of a Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Maitama, on a one-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence.
Lilian was alleged to have at various times collected a total sum of N21,450,000 from her victim in the guise that she was going to help secure jobs for his relatives. She, however, failed to help secure any jobs and did not refund the money collected.

Lady Who Was Stripped Unclad & Tortured Over Missing iPhone, Narrates Her Ordeal
The lady who was accused of stealing an iPhone and had pepper inserted into her private part has narrated what she suffered in the hands of her accusers.
According to the lady identified as Favour, a commercial sex worker, her accusers took her to a native doctor who used voodoo to place bullets in her belly. The act forced her to confess to committing the crime.
However, after they left the native doctor’s den, she told her accusers that she didn’t steal the iPhone.
Angered by her revelation, the accusers descended on her and stripped her off her clothes. As if that wasn’t enough, they inserted pepper into her private part and filmed the when thing, a video which went viral.

Bisi Silva, the younger sister of Nollywood veteran, Joke Silva and founder and Artistic Director of the Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) in Lagos died on Tuesday, Feb. 12th after a protracted battle with cancer.
Bisi died at about 3:45 p.m in Lagos.

73-year-Old Nigerian Nanny Found Guilty Of Killing An Eight-Month-Old Baby In United States
A Nigerian nanny has been found guilty of murdering an 8-month-old baby by force-feeding her half a pint of milk in less than 30 seconds.
Oluremi Adeleye, 73, was trusted with the care of 8-month-old Enitan Salubi in Maryland. But the nanny was captured on a nanny cam taking the teat off a bottle as she forced the child to guzzle down the baby formula in October 2016.
Prosecutors say the carer performed the sickening punishment after the baby’s crying woke her from a nap, according to the Washington Post.
INEC Confirms That 4,695 Smart Card Readers Destroyed In Anambra State Inferno
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that 4,695 Smart Card Readers were destroyed in the fire that occurred in its office in Awka, Anambra on Tuesday.
Festus Okoye, National Commissioner, Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, made the confirmation in a statement issued in Awka saying, there was no fatality or injury report but recalled that similar incidents had occurred in the last 12 days following closely behind those of Isiala Ngwa and Qur'an pan Local Governments offices in Abia and Plateau States respectively.
$16bn Power Sector Fraud: ''Stop Accusing Me Ignorantly'' - Obasanjo Tells Buhari
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has reacted to the recent call by President Buhari for a probe of the $16 billion spent on power during the 16-year PDP rule. President Buhari at the APC presidential rally in Bayelsa state on Tuesday, February 12th hinted that there will be a probe on all the past governments involved in the $16 billion power project.
Reacting to the call for the probe, Obasanjo in a statement released by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, said the request for a probe on the power project is borne out of ignorance.
In the statement, the former president said he had given a detailed account of how the money was spent for the power project in his widely read book, My Watch, and that if President Buhari cannot read it, he should get one of his aides to read it and interpret in a language best suitable. Tinubu: I’m Not Leaving APC
National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has said he has no plans to leave the party for any other.
He said he would remain solidly behind the APC contrary to insinuations by some that he was leaving the party.
A video where Tinubu, at the APC Presidential Campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was seen throwing the party’s flag to National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, to give to the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Prince Dapo Abiodun, had been framed by opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)to mean he was throwing away the party’s flag.
But in a statement on Tuesday by his Special Adviser, Media, Tunde Rahman, the APC leader denied throwing away the party’s flag as being insinuated by PDP.

Chimpanzees Escape From Belfast Zoo Enclosure Using Tree Branch Ladder
Chimpanzees made an improvised ladder out of fallen tree branches to escape from their enclosure at BelfastZoo.
The animals were caught on video climbing over the wall and walking calmly around the attraction in Northern Ireland on Saturday.
One adult chimpanzee passed just feet from four children enjoying a family trip to the zoo.
Manager Alyn Cairns said the chimpanzees soon returned to the enclosure of their own accord.
“They’re intelligent primates and know they’re not supposed to be out of their enclosure, so got back in themselves,” Mr Cairns told the BBC.
“We think what has happened is that the trees in their enclosure have been weakened by the storms and so they’ve been able to break them and use them as a ladder to get out.
“We like things to be natural in their enclosure, to have trees in it, but we will review it.”
