Ifè Boy in Michigan: The Extraordinary Story of A Mother’s Love by Onigegewura

A mother’s love is a universal currency. There is hardly any culture that does not celebrate motherhood. In Yorubaland, a mother is regarded as gold. That is where ĂŚyániwĂşrĂ  comes from. In Igbo, it is Nneka.  Onigegewura is certain that its equivalent exists in almost every language of the world.

One mother who proved the truth of this golden axiom is an illiterate mother from the ancient city of Ile-Ife.  As of today, there is no monument to her memory. Her story also does not feature in History texts. Yet, when the roll is called of mothers who were prepared to pay the ultimate price for their children, the name of Asabi Adedire must certainly occupy a pride of place. It is to keep the memory of this extraordinary woman alive that Onigegewura is bringing you this story today.

The first time I heard about Asabi Adedire was from my mother. It was on the eve of my departure to College. Iya mi, Ikoyi Esho, was packing every conceivable food item into my bag. Like most teenagers, I wanted only money, and not garri and elubo with tinko [dried meat] I was being saddled with. My mother, however, won’t hear of it. She believed that I was going to die of starvation without rice and beans. Despite myself, I was appreciative of the motherly sacrifice and I told her. That was when she responded with: “Kini mo ti se? Asabi se ju be lo fun omo e” [What have I done? Asabi did more than that for her child.]

Pdp’s Victory In Oyo Thwarts South West Apc’s Political Agenda

Image result for Pdp’s Victory In Oyo
The vision for Southwest regional integration driven by a single political party has continued to be a mirage with the defeat suffered by All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State. Although the architects of the regional integration argue that collaboration of the six states within the geographical zone was non-political but to advance their economic, social and cultural interests which had its roots from the First Republic when the region was being governed by Action Group (AG) under the leadership of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

The dominance of a party continued in the region for a greater part of the Second Republic when Unity Party (UPN) held sway in the Southwest between 1979 and 1983, but it has become tough in the current dispensation for a political party to win all the six states and push the regional integration agenda from the same political philosophy.

Kelly is requesting to travel via private jet because he "needs to pay his day to day living expenses," as well as the excessive costs of child support and other child-related expenses, and a money judgment against him for back rent on his Chicago studio, according to ABC13.

Rescuing The Family From Rising Incest Menace In Nigeria

Timid and slender, the pain in her eyes is intense, betraying the agony within. Her countenance is not welcoming. Even a child can tell from afar that something is wrong with the teenager. Her continuous loud sighs, coming every other two minutes seem poignant like someone who is bereaved of a loved one, a breadwinner. Ajoke, surname withheld, is not. She is rather a victim of incest. She lost her innocence at the young age of seven and has since then lived with the horror of a seared heart; horror so strong as to deaden her sense of humanity and hope.

Judith Lewis Herman, American psychiatrist and author, whose work has focused on the understanding and treatment of incest and traumatic stress, describes Ajoke’s situation eloquently: “The horror of incest is not in the sexual act but in the exploitation of children and the corruption of parental love.”

Research shows that sugary drinks are one of the major determinants of obesity and diabetes, and emerging evidence indicates that high consumption of sugary drinks increases the risk for heart disease, the number one killer of men and women around the world..

Reducing our preference for sweet beverages will require concerted action on several levels—from creative food scientists and marketers in the beverage industry, as well as from individual consumers and families, schools and worksites, and state and federal government.

Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) were linked to risks of premature death, particularly death from cardiovascular diseases, according to a Harvard study published on Monday in the journal Circulation.

Former Ogun State governor, Otunta Gbenga Daniel’s decision to resign from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and quit active politics must have stemmed from manifold considerations.

The immediate impression, which the unexpected action left in the minds of most Nigerians, especially the political class, was that it must have been done to weaken former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s resolve to challenge the outcome of the recent presidential election at the courts. That the development has generated and continues to generate intense debates and concerns could be explained by the level of involvement of the former governor in both Atiku’s campaign and the gubernatorial election in Daniel’s home state, Ogun.

Suspension: Crisis Brews As APC Governors Set To Sack Okorocha

There appears to be another round of crisis in the All Progressives Congress (APC) as governors elected on the platform of the party are said to be divided over plans to remove the Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, as chairman of their forum.

According to Daily Independent findings, the APC governors, under the aegis of Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), have not been meeting as they ought to and take positions on critical issues since the controversial primaries of the party.

Sources said the situation has been further worsened by the suspension of Okorocha by the National Working Committee (NWC) earlier this month for alleged anti-party activities.

Though Okorocha, whose tenure as Imo State governor will elapse by May 29, is expected to hand over his position as chairman of Progressives Governors Forum to another serving governor, Daily Independent gathered that there is an underground plot to oust him by elements who believe it is morally wrong for Okorocha to preside over the forum while he is currently under suspension by the party’s NWC.
