A female corps member serving in Lagos has died from injuries sustained after a train hit her on Thursday in Lagos.

The incident, which happened around the Ikeja axis of the rail line, threw motorists and pedestrians in the area into confusion.

According to a friend of the victim, Oma, who spoke with Saturday PUNCH on Friday, the tragedy occurred while the victim was heading home from the monthly clearance exercise by corps members at the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat.

Bayelsa State Police have arrested a 31 year old man, identified as Mike for raping a 9-year-old girl.

According to reports the guy who is their neighbor lured the girl simply identified as Ruth to his room with N20 before defiling her.

Her mother traced her to his room with her voice while she was screaming, While the mom was shouting her name, he then tied the little girl’s mouth with a wrapper.

He has since been arrested and is currently in custody at Akenfa Police Station Yenagoa..

In one of the biggest hauls of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in recent times, a 38-year-old Nigerian national was nabbed with 1.21 kg heroin worth Rs six crore from Mumbai-bound Rajdhani Express at Vadodara railway station, Ahmedabad, India on Wednesday, March 7.
Madubueze Nonso Charles, who was travelling in A5 coach of the train, was arrested around 3.30 am from the train by the Ahmedabad zone sleuths who had a specific information about him from the Delhi zonal unit.

There was palpable tension on board an Arik Air Dash 8 Q400 aircraft on March 6, 2018 as undetected source of smoke in the aircraft cabin forced the pilot in command of the flight to declare emergency 81 nautical miles to the Kotoka International Airport, Accra , Ghana.

The confusion that enveloped passengers on board was triggered by failure of the oxygen masks to deploy after the crew on board tried to calm down passengers, who had gone into prayer sessions as the smoke escalated.

A passenger, who sent the incident message on social media said the cabin crew issued them serviette to cover their noses to avoid being choked by the smoke.

After more than three months of legal calisthenics, a suburban Cincinnati man who had been one of two caregivers for a 6-year-old paraplegic boy was deported earlier this week to his native Dominican Republic.

Yancarlos Mendez, 27, of Springdale, Ohio, was moved from the Jena/LaSalle Detention Facility in Jena, La., and flown Tuesday to Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic about 1,700 miles southeast of his U.S. home. He had been held for three weeks in Louisiana after his transfer from another federal holding center in Mount Gilead, Ohio, north of Columbus.

"We are sad, but unfortunately we cannot do anything else," said his wife, Sandra Mendoza.

Mendoza said Wednesday she has not told her son, Ricky Solis, that his stepfather is now out of the country.

"He goes to school, and I don't want him to be more sad and not focus," Mendoza said. "He keeps crying and asking, 'Where is Daddy?' The last time he talked to Yancarlos on the video call, he just kept asking, 'Daddy, when are you coming home? Where are you?' "

After more than 20 years in the United States, a Wisconsin man was deported to west Africa earlier this week, a federal agency confirmed.

Buba Jabbi, 41, of Wisconsin Rapids was deported Tuesday and back in Gambia by Wednesday afternoon, according to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement statement issued Wednesday.


Buba Jabbi, 41, of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., was deported March 6, 2018. He had been detained Feb. 15 as he made his annual check-in with U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement in Milwaukee.

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare 11, summoned all Benin chiefs and native doctors in the kingdom for an emergency meeting with a view to tackling human trafficking, kidnapping and other security challenges in the state. This came as Edo State House of Assembly, yesterday, began consideration of a bill for a law to prohibit human trafficking and establish Edo State task force against trafficking in persons.

The revered monarch, had penultimate week expressed concerns over the activities of human traffickers in the state and called for concerted effort to fight the scourge.

Lagos – Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Tuesday directed that students in public and private schools in the state should sing the National Anthem in Yoruba Language daily, to preserve and promote the Yoruba culture. 

The Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, relayed the directive at a meeting with Principals and Head Teachers of public schools in Lagos. Akinwunmi Ambode She said that Yoruba Language would also be made a compulsory subject for students. Gov. Ambode had signed the Yoruba Language Preservation and Promotion Bill into Law on Feb. 8. Adebule said that Wednesdays had been declared ‘Yoruba Speaking Day’ in schools, with all teaching and learning activities from assembly period to closing being done in Yoruba.

SENATOR Dino Melaye (Kogi West) has said the government of President Muhammadu Buhari has in three years borrowed more than previous governments of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, without any clearly defined or identified programme to point at.
The lawmaker was reacting to the refusal by the president to assent to a bill seeking the establishment of Peace Corps of Nigeria.
Mr. Buhari had rebuffed to append his assent to the bill citing unavailability of resources as his reason for his refusal as funding the organisation will be a financial burden on the federal government.

 Maryam Sanda allegedly killed her husband, Bilyamin Bello.
Maryam, who is the daughter of Maimuna Aliyu, a former Aso Saving Bank executive, was arraigned by the police for allegedly killing, son of a former PDP Chairman, Mohammed Bello.

Maryam was granted bail by the Chief judge, Yusuf Halilu, based on medical reports which indicated that she is pregnant and ill.

Recall that Maryam’s counsel, Joseph Daudu, SAN, on January 25th, pleaded with the court to grant his client bail for proper medication but was thrown out.

A suspected drug dealer ran from the Police and buried himself in the mud after he was pulled over in a car full of cocaine and crystal meth.

The suspect, Joe Hobson Jr, was pulled over on Interstate 20 near Conyers, Georgia, USA, on Thursday on suspicion of drug trafficking – but fled shortly after the traffic stop.

Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office set up a perimeter, and two hours later, the convicted felon was found with his feet sticking out of a muddy drainage creek.

A teenage mother and two child traffickers have been arrested by the Imo state police command over the sale of her baby.
The State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, while parading the suspects disclosed that the teenager identified as Chiamaka Njoku, 18, of Umuokpo Emeabiam Owerri West LGA of Imo state, gave birth December 10, 201, and sold the baby girl for N120,000.
“She was impregnated by unidentified man out of wedlock. She left her parents house and was harboured by Okere Justice of the same address who contacted one Franca Chukwukere, the Proprietress of an illegal orphanage, Franca Gold Orphanage Lagos, where she remained until on 10/12/2017 when she put to bed. The baby girl was sold out at the cost of #300,000 and the sum of #120,000 sent to Chiamaka Njoku through Justice Okere. Two baby girls of one month three weeks and one month two weeks old respectively were recovered from the child trafficker” said Ezike.

375,000 US Dollars Intercepted From Businessman At Kaduna Airport.


The Nigeria Customs Service on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, handed over the sum of 375,000 USD (Three Hundred and Seventy-Five Thousand United States Dollar) and one Adamu Rabiu Muhammad with passport number A50280997 to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kaduna Zonal office.

The suspect, a businessman from Kano was intercepted at the international wing of the Kaduna International airport, travelling on board ET941 Ethiopian Airline to Dubai on a business trip.

A Bangladeshi passenger who reportedly stripped naked and attacked a stewardess during a flight from Malaysia has been arrested, the airline said Monday.
Shortly after the Malindo Air flight departed from Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, the 20-year-old took his clothes off and started watching pornography on his laptop.

The man, a student at a Malaysian university, initially put his clothes back on at the request of cabin crew, the New Straits Times newspaper reported.

Terror-stricken villagers cut open a killer crocodile to find the arms and legs of a mutilated fisherman.

Andi Aso Erang, 36, vanished while collecting clams in a river near his home in East Kutai, Borneo.

His worried family raised the alarm and were left devastated two days later when they found his mutilated body on the banks of the Kabuyahan River last Thursday.

A jury has convicted a Georgia man who killed a woman after she rejected his offer of paying $8 for sex. Felix Shirley was sentenced to life in prison plus five years on Friday for the killing of 26-year-old Misha Moore in January 2017, the Fulton County District Attorney's Office said.

 The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Shirley had just ended his shift at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium when Moore approached him. As the two began walking together, Shirley handed Moore $8 for sex. When she told him it wasn’t enough, authorities say Shirley threw her against a wall, kicked and beat her, then shot her with a 22-caliber revolver.
