Lagos Police Uncovers Illegal Oil Wells, Shuts 12 Houses

The Lagos State Government on Friday shut 12 houses in Abeokuta and Ibadan Streets in Ilasamaja area of the State over discovery of shallow oil wells built by landlords to illegally scoop diesel from pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The oil wells were said to have been built for the purpose of illegally scooping diesel and selling same to members of the public, while some of the affected landlords built pumping machine and bore hole to perpetrate the crime on a large scale.

Dr. Wale Ojoniyi, a lecturer at the Department of Languages and Linguistics of the Osun State University, Ikire Campus, is currently in trouble following the release of a video tape of his alleged sex escapade with a 400 level English student of the institution, Mercy Ikwue, Punchng reports.

Canadians still can’t legally grow or sell cannabis for fun, but the government announced Thursday it will allow people with prescriptions to grow their own medical marijuana at home.

Depending on their needs, patients can grow on average two plants outdoors or five plants indoors (reasoning that the settings yield significantly different amounts). Health Canada said this “provides an immediate solution” for complying with federal court order that the government make medicinal marijuana more affordable and accessible and to those who need it.

Police arrest 47-Year-Old Man For Defiling A Baby In Lagos

The police in Lagos have arrested a suspected paedophile, Emmanuel Magbatie, for allegedly defiling an 18-month old baby in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The state Olice Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed the incident, said that the suspect lived at Number 23 Adebayo Street, Owutu, Ikorodu, with the parents of the baby.

A Nigerian mother who paid a man £1,000 to pose as her newborn baby’s father in a bid to dodge deportation was caught out by online pictures of the real dad cradling his son at a naming ceremony, a court heard.

Faust Abolore, 29, allegedly hired Anthony Ezekpo, 44, in a plot to gain British citizenship, using his name on the baby’s birth certificate and a subsequent passport application.

She claimed they lived together at a bogus address in Chandlers Drive in  Erith in an attempt to fool Greenwich council officials.

Suspected militants killed three soldiers and carted away arms and ammunition in an ambush in Nembe city, Nember Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, on Monday, August 8th.
The gunmen also made away with military gunboats, after they sacked the operatives of the JTF stationed at the checkpoint in the waterways of the state.
Reports have it that the militants disguised as mourners to deceive the security operatives before unleashing several gunshots on the unsuspecting officers, killing three instantly and injuring several others, including civilians. Many residents of the area are fleeing in fear of a reprisal attack by the military.

“The attack was deadly and well planned. Nobody had expected that such a thing would happen at such time when the jetties were busy with people preparing to go about their normal business activities,” a resident told Thisday.
“I am sure even the soldiers did not expect such incident to happen at that time. Some persons who were already sailing out of Nembe said they saw the gunmen but dismissed them as mourners because they were dressed in white robes”, he said.
Joint Task Force JTF confirmed the attack, saying that gunmen believed to be militants at 10a.m , attacked 343 Artillery Regiment, a detachment of Operation Delta Safe deployed to Nembe Jetty in Bayelsa State. Acting Coordinator for the Joint Media Campaign, Centre, Lt Commander A Ahmed, said in a statement,

Oyo Lawmaker Was Killed Because He Recognised One of Us – Suspect

ONE Ayobami Adedeji, a principal suspect in the murder of Oyo lawmaker, Mr. Gideon Aremu, yesterday narrated how he and three others pulled the trigger that killed the legislator. The suspect, paraded by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Leye Oyebade, said they are robbers and not hired assassins, putting to rest insinuations that the killing was politically motivated. 

The 23-year-old suspect said he initially did not understand why a colleague of theirs, Abbey, killed the lawmaker. But that he later discovered that Abbey pulled the trigger because he lives in the same neighbourhood with the lawmaker.

Court Jails Ex-NURTW Boss In Oyo State, Auxiliary And Six (6) Others To 6 Years Imprisonment

Oyo State High Court has sentenced a former chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Oyo State, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi, popularly known as ‘Axilliary’ to six years imprisonment.

Lamidi, along with four others – Saheed Kareem, Taiwo Tijani, Abu Kareem and Kazeem Kayode, had faced a three-count charge of conspiracy, attempted murder and murder of one Adekunle Oladipupo, a medical student on March 2, 2014, at 9.45p.m, at Iwo Road motor park in Ibadan.

We Received N15.1m Ransom To Free Lagos King — Arrested suspect

Today, Isaiah Ododomu, one of the 9 kidnappers of the rescued Oniba of Iba, Oba Goriola Oseni, confessed to journalists that his gang received N15.1m ransom in two tranches. He said that they received an initial ransom of N12m and a subsequent ransom of N3.1m   

The two suspects arrested so far are Toba Forejo and Isaiah Ododomu, both from Ondo State. Ododomu, who said he used to be a bunkerer, explained that since the bunkering business had been stopped, they decided to go into kidnapping.

Generator fumes on Saturday killed a man identified by his neighbours as a policeman, and his lover, suspected to be a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Anambra State.

The name of the policeman could not be ascertained as of press time, but his lover’s name was given as Ifeoma.
