Man Catches 1-Year-Old Baby Falling From Window in Rainstorm [Photo+Video]

A CCTV camera caught a man successfully catching a one-year-old boy after the child fell from an apartment building during a heavy rainstorm in China's Guangdong Province.
Reuters reports that the child may have escaped through a window in his second-story home while looking for his mother.

Two local men, referred to only as Mr. Li and Mr. Hu, were close by and rushed to the child's assistance. The surveillance footage shows the men frantically anticipating the fall with their arms out, barely catching the small child as he fell in the rain.

Students OF OAU yesterday seized a Toyota bullet proof SUV with ‘Presidency’ inscription and registration number, FG902-B02 for trying to drive in between them while they were protesting an increase in their tuition fees.

According to them, security details attached to the convoy shot to scare protesters but two students were wounded in the process.

The vehicle was later seized by students who surrounded it and said they demand an apology. It will be recalled that, the protest started when students alleged that their fees have been increased from N17,000 to over N100,000. More pictures from the protest after the cut.

A baby was found alive early this morning in a garbage area beneath a bridge located at Yaya Abatan road, before Haruna bus stop in Agege/Ogba area died a few minutes after he was found.
His cry attracted people, but he died a few minutes before help could reach him.

Nigerian Military Denies Allegation of Genocide in Borno

The Defence Headquarters has released a statement denying a claim today by a Kaduna-based cleric, Dr. Ahmad Gumi, that there is genocide going on in Borno where security forces/vigilante groups round up young men and kill them in a field for allegedly being Boko Haram members. (Read here).

How Seven Medical Students of University Of Jos [UNIJOS] Died in The Jos Bomb Blast [photos]

Seven students of the Medical Laboratory Science Department of the University of Jos were among the dead victims of Tuesday’s twin bomb blasts at the Terminal Market in Jos, Plateau State.

They were said to be final year students of the department. Three of them were said to be members of the Redeemed Christian Fellowship.

The students  were going to their hostels after receiving lectures at the old campus of the university when they met their death.

NDLEA Seizes ‘Cocaine Candies’, Arrests Man

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have seized 2.605 kilogrammes of cocaine packed as candies.

The agency also arrested a 52-year-old man, Onyejiaju Augustine, who was the owner of the cocaine candies.

The NDLEA spokesperson, Michelle Ofoyeju, said the seizure and the arrest were made at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while the suspect was trying to smuggle the cocaine out of the country.

He said the Imo State-born suspect had been on the list of wanted smugglers and was eventually caught during the screening of passengers enroute Etihad.

An elderly woman escaped lynching on Wednesday after being accused of being a bird and witch in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State.

According to residents of Ojo Road, where the purported transformation took place, the woman was a black bird before suddenly turning into a human being.

Hundreds of residents were said to have gathered around the woman to lynch her.

An eyewitness, Chike, said he was sitting in front of a compound with his girlfriend when they saw three black birds flying.

Boko Haram: Former Commandant warns Nigerians to Prepare for War

A former Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Brig.-Gen. Williams Obene (retd.), on Wednesday advised Nigerians to prepare for war, saying the Boko Haram insurgency would likely last another 10 years, despite foreign intervention.
Obene, who pioneered the Nigerian Army Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency Centre, told The Punch that the recent bomb attacks in Kano and Jos were signs of asymmetrical warfare such as insurgency.
According to him, it’s unrealistic to expect security forces to bring Boko Haram insurgency to an end within the next six months earmarked for the extended state of emergency in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.

Nigeria’s Special Forces from the Army’s 7th Division have sighted and narrowed the search for the more than 250 abducted Chibok schoolgirls to three camps operated by the extremist Boko Haram sect north of Kukawa at the western corridors of the Lake Chad, senior military and administration officials have said.

“It has been a most difficult but heroic breakthrough,” one senior military official said in Abuja.

That claim was supported by another senior commander from the Army’s 7th Division, the military formation created to deal with the insurgency in the Northeast. The 7th Division is headquartered in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The breakthrough comes at a critical moment for the Nigerian military that has faced cutting criticism over its handling of the kidnapping of the girls more than a month ago.

The news is also key for the Maiduguri-based 7th Division a week after a humiliating mutiny by troops of its 101 battalion who fired at the General Officer Commanding the division, Ahmadu Mohammed, a Major General.

Chilling CCTV footage has emerged of a Chinese man armed with a cleaver going on the rampage at a primary school in central China on Tuesday, attacking first and second-graders and leaving eight children injured. 

The man has been identified as 35-year-old Chen Zuihang. He was detained following the attack at the school in Macheng, in Hubei province.

The city's government said on its website that police were investigating the motive. The statement said the injured students were being treated at a hospital.
