Tinsel: Chris Attoh Leaves, Gbenro Ajibade Allegedly Suspended
Popular M-Net-produced series Tinsel has suffered a setback as one of her main actors Chris Attoh who plays ‘Kwame Mensah’ suddenly announced he is leaving the series to pursue other career interests.
Chris dropped the bombshell via a statement through a South Africa based management, Waka Talent. 'The last seven years on Tinsel have been an incredible journey and experience for me. Working with M-Net was phenomenal and it took a lot of deliberation but I have decided to pursue other career interests', he said.
Chris leaves almost a year after another strong face on the show Damilola Adegbite who played ‘Telema Duke’ announced she too was leaving to pursue other career interests.
Meanwhile, another popular face at Tinsel Gbenro Ajibade has been reportedly suspended from the show. Information made available point that Ajibade may have been suspended because he failed to show up for long sequence of shoots involving his character 'Soji Bankole.'
If this suspension is true then Gbenro may be facing disciplinary action for being away from set after traveling to the US for the just concluded one week long Africa Fashion show held in New York where he pranced the runway as a model.

A number of women and girls at risk of forced marriage have avoided going abroad by concealing spoons in their underwear at airport security, according to a campaign group.
Karma Nirvana, a Derby-based charity that supports victims of forced marriage, advises people who ring its helpline to hide a spoon in order to set off metal detectors at British airports. The group says that its recommendation has prevented some women from being spirited overseas.
Last week ministers warned that young people were at the highest risk of being taken abroad for a forced marriage during the school holidays. The government's forced marriage unit received 400 reports between June and August last year, out of an annual total of 1,500.

Despite their military name, it is hard to see how an eight-strong delegation from Nigeria's branch of the Boys' Brigade posed much of a threat to this country. They are, after all, members of a Christian youth group that is championed by our royal family and had been invited to a prestigious global event to recognise civic leadership. But the handpicked teenagers and their two dedicated leaders were barred from Britain.
The group was gutted. "We are not happy at all," Arastus Mbamoh, national secretary of the Boys' Brigade in Nigeria, told me. "It is very annoying and highly disappointing for everyone." They were not alone –43 other delegates were barred from the international gathering this weekend at Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. With depressing inevitability all were from Africa; only eight applicants from the continent were allowed to join the festivities.
This is the flip side of our toxic immigration debate, with those vile "go home" posters and racist talk of bongo bongo land. Each day, thousands of Africans are turned away from Britain, wrecking carefully laid plans to trade, visit relatives, attend conferences, see the sights or simply enjoy some shopping. They lose costly visa fees of up to £772 and go elsewhere; we lose goodwill alongside much-needed business in key sectors.

Nine PDP Govs Float New Party, Apply For Registration
Baring any last minute hitch, a new political party will berth in the already charged Nigerian political turf this week.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed on Wednesday that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and some Governors of the crisis-ridden ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have applied for the registration of a group, Peoples Progressive Movement (PPM), as a political party.
The commission said it is processing the application.

Bride Found Hanged In Gambia After African Husband Discovers He Is Infertile
A bride whose new husband discovered he was infertile was found hanged at their home after an argument. Simone Jabakhanji, 27, had been rowing with Gambian Mohammed, 29, after he was given the news by doctors, an inquest into her death was told.
Mrs Jabakhanji, from Leyland in Lancashire, had moved to Gambia to be with Mohammed, and the two had married at a beach ceremony attended by her family.
A year later, however, she was found hanged at their home in the West African country’s capital city of Banjul, on August 13, 2011.
In the days leading up to her death she told her mother back in England that she was frightened of him and needed to give him “quiet space” when he got angry.
Initially Mr Jabakhanji, who reported the death, was arrested for her murder by Gambian police, but he was then released.

A homeless man whose life has been turned around after he returned a diamond ring that was dropped into his collection cup has been reunited with siblings he has not seen for 16 years.
Billy Ray Harris made headlines around the world when he gave the ring, worth several thousand dollars, back to its owner, Sarah Darling.
Ms Darling and her fiance set up a fundraising page to thank him.
With the $180,000 raised from public donations, Mr Harris has been able to buy a house and get a job.

Prisoners Perform Oral Sex In Police Van While On Their Way To Jail(Photo)
Carlisa Brookins was caught by their corrections officer as he was performing oral sex on and Alexis Garcia while he was transporting the couple and eight others to a Las Vegas Jail.
The male and female inmates were separated into rows and all of them had belly constraints so the officer was surprised when he saw Brookins allegedly bend over her seat to perform a sex act on Garcia.
When the officer turned on the light, Brookins immediately sat up and made several comments claiming she was not a prostitute because she didn’t charge Garcia, according to the police report quoted by the Sun.

A 35-year-old woman has been charged with 20 counts of rape and sodomy after she allegedly had an eight-month sexual relationship with an 11-year-old boy, it emerged today.
Sarah Beth Hopkins, from Salem, was arrested on Sunday after the parents of her alleged victim reported her to police.
The boy, now 12, confessed to his mother he had been sexually active with Hopkins for the last eight months.
When Hopkins was confronted she allegedly admitted the sexual abuse.
The family lived at the same apartment complex as Hopkins - who was seen as a trusted family friend - until about two weeks ago, according to KGW.
The mother became suspicious of their close friendship and the amount of time they spent together.
The abuse is thought to have taken place at her apartment and while they were out on long walks together.

The Lagos State Government on Tuesday explained why it shut a building belonging to a former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu.
The state said Kalu defaulted in the payment of his Land Use Charge, an annual fee paid by all landlords for their property in Lagos State.
The house is located in Park View, Ikoyi, a highbrow area of the state.
A statement by the state government said that contrary to the political undertones read into the sealing of the property, Kalu had failed to pay the fees despite the three notices served him.
The development comes a week after Kalu criticized the state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, for deporting some indigenes of Anambra state.

An Update On ‘Kenji, The Robot Programmed To Fall In Love’
Nearly three years ago we published a story about Kenji: the ‘third generation humanoid robot.’ Kenji was an alarmingly unique robot – he was capable of the robot equivalent of love. The article further stated that Kenji developed intense feelings for a young female intern at the lab, and had to be deactivated. Other web news outlets picked up on this story – Gizmodo, IGN, The Next Web all published articles on Kenji’s adventures.
Regrettably, it turns out that the story was a hoax. As Brian Merchant’s piece in Vice* uncovered earlier this year, the source of this fabrication actually originates in a fake news website called Muckflash. That website has long stopped publishing, but their fictional creation Kenji keeps circulating in the net.
We humbly acknowledge that we fell for the ruse. Like it or not, emotionally charged robots are still way off in the future. Kenji is a fake.
At the same time, the interest in Kenji and robot love – which has flared up again in recent days for whatever reason – does give us pause. Why is the notion that a non-organic entity may develop human feeling such a compelling – and disturbing – idea?

Amputee Swimmer Philippe Croizon Has Wheelchair Stolen
A French athlete, who became the first quadruple amputee to swim across the English Channel, has made a public appeal after thieves stole his custom-made wheelchair.
Philippe Croizon, 45, was on holiday with friends near Dieppe in northern France when the device was taken.
"They haven't just stolen my wheelchair, they've stolen my independence," he told French media.
Mr Croizon lost his limbs in an electrical accident in 1994.
He was struck by a charge of 20,000 volts while adjusting a TV aerial on a roof.
The Worst Prisons on Earth
Diyarbakir Prison in southeastern Turkey was built in 1980. Since then it has imprisoned many of that nation's most violent criminals which is why it is one of the worst in the world. This prison is known for dishing out not just physical torture to it's inmates but mental as well. The are two sections within the facility; the E-Type which has a capacity of 744 prisoners and the D-Type with a 688 capacity however both currently hold more than it should.
La Sabeneta is located in Venezuela and is considered one of the world's worst prisons. It is one of the most brutal correctional facilities in South America which is why inmates want to leave as soon as they are sent here. There are many diseases which run rampant inside and there is little to no care given to the inmates. The combination of that and the facility being understaffed causes many violent crimes to occur inside of it.

Tinsel is Nigeria’s best TV production — Victor Olaotan
Victor Olaotan plays the lead role as the character of Fred Ade-Williams in popular television series, Tinsel. He speaks with JOAN OMIONAWELE on his childhood, journey through life and career. Excerpts
You were a broadcaster for a while before you moved into acting. Why the u-turn?
Well, I have always been an actor. I had my first breakthrough in acting in 1959. My official professionalism was shown in 1974. It was entitled Candle in the Wind and it was the first television movie on Nigerian television.
How and why were you chosen for the lead role in Tinsel?
It was just grace. I understand over 500 people auditioned for the role, but I was chosen. I was surprised because I am an actor that do not jump all over the place to get my face seen, and I had left the industry for over 20 years sojourning in the United States. I have been in the industry for a while. A reporter was talking to me sometime ago and asked ‘Don’t you consider yourself lucky? You just came into the industry and you are at the top!’ I said, ‘Is that so?’ It has nothing to do with me being a fantastic actor or being special.

Outrage Over Adeboye’s 3-km Long Church
The announcement last Saturday that the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, would build a three kilometre long auditorium in Nigeria has triggered outrage among Nigerians who call the humongous investment a waste and another cofirmation that Nigerian churches are veering off the teachings of Jesus Christ.
The General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, announced during the Holy Ghost Service at the Redemption Camp in Mowe area of Ogun State, southwest Nigeria, that the existing auditorium which was built in 2000 with a capacity to sit one million people at once could

The Holy Ghost Service was one of the programmes lined up for the 61st Annual Convention of the church and Adeboye promised that the project will start soonest and will be completed before the 62nd Convention in August 2014. Two nights ago, I took a break from research work, decided to watch news on local television and catch up with goings-on in the polity. After the news, I was not quite enjoying an old movie flick, ‘Broken Arrow’ featuring John Travolta and Christian Slater, being shown on one of the stations and decided to flip to another station. My remote control took me to the 61st Annual Convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and I was just too happy to catch up with the Convention in my living room. Anointing can be anywhere, if faith is exuded like the Centurion.
Then before sermon, General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Adeboye made a special announcement. The church is to build a new auditorium, stretching 3km in length and width, and four times the size of the present auditorium, to accommodate many more parishioners, before next year’s convention. Everyone was naturally excited, particularly those who get to camp ground late and cannot be seated in the present auditorium. Then Pastor Adeboye shocked me with the following pronouncement:
“We need N1 Billion from ten (10) people, If you are one of them, please see my personal Secretary after we finish today. We also need N100million from those who can afford it, if you are in that category, please see my personal Secretary as well. Nonetheless, we need everyone’s involvement. If you can afford N50million, N20million, N5million, N1million to as low as N100, kindly make sure you participate. How many of you will build for the Lord?” All hands naturally went up in delirium.
Five People Roast to Death in Danfo Accident Along Western Avenue, Alaka, Lagos
A Danfo bus en-route CMS to Surulere, crash landed from Alaka bridge, engulfed with fire and roasted five passengers to death including a mother an her baby. According to eyewitnesses, the Danfo bus crash-landed on the door side which made it impossible for people to escape. Norway PM Jens Stoltenberg Works As Secret Taxi Driver [VIDEO + PHOTO]
Norwegian PM Jens Stoltenberg spent an afternoon working incognito as a taxi driver in Oslo, he has revealed.
Mr Stoltenberg said he had wanted to hear from real Norwegian voters and that taxis were one of the few places where people shared their true views.
He wore sunglasses and an Oslo taxi driver's uniform for the shift in June, only revealing his identity once he was recognised by his passengers.
His exchanges with his passengers were captured on a hidden camera.
The footage - made in collaboration with an advertising company - has been posted on the prime minister's Facebook page and made into a film which will be used as part of his campaign for re-election in September.
