He said Mr Johnson's plight should demonstrate the need to follow social distancing rules, as the virus 'has a malevolence that is truly frightening'.

Mr Gove played down concerns that the government will be paralysed with the leader out of action, insisting that Mr Johnson had already been on a 'stripped back diary' for days and 'Cabinet is the supreme decision-making body',

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is rushed to intensive care as his 'persistent' coronavirus symptoms worsen and his Foreign Secretary is forced to take over running of the country

Coronavirus UK: Boris Johnson taken to intensive care

Boris Johnson has been moved to intensive care after his coronavirus condition worsened, Downing Street announced tonight. The Prime Minister was transferred to the ICU at St Thomas' Hospital in London at 7pm this evening. He is conscious and has asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to deputise for him. Mr Raab, also First Secretary of State, is primed to take charge of the government's coronavirus response, but it is understood he is not a temporary prime minister. The PM tested positive for coronavirus 11 days ago and started self-isolating in his Number 11 flat, where he remained at the helm of the UK's war on the virus. He was last seen looking exhausted on Friday, when he posted a video message on Twitter revealing he was still suffering from a high temperature.

Coronavirus UK: Death toll hits 5,373 as 439 die in England
Updated statistics from NHS England, Public Health Wales and the Scottish Government revealed the death toll for Sunday, announced this afternoon, was 30 per cent lower than for the previous day. This marks the second day in a row that the number of new coronavirus fatalities has dropped, sparking hopes that the Government's lockdown plan is starting to work.

Although death numbers have, in past weeks, surged on Tuesdays from Monday lows, countries across Europe are now seeing their fatality counts drop as the effects of social distancing filter through to hospitals. London has been worst affected in the most recent death toll (pictured left, paramedics at St Thomas' Hospital), with 129 deaths announced today. Officials and insiders say the NHS is still coping well with the crisis and there are still enough facilities to handle the numbers of COVID-19 patients (pictured bottom right, an ambulance at the Nightingale Hospital in East London and, top right, health workers being swabbed for coronavirus testing at a site in Edgbaston, Birmingham).

Abacha Loot: UK Backs US, Opposes Fg’s Plan To Pay Bagudu $110m

The United Kingdom has joined the United States in resisting a plan by the Nigerian government to give Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, about $110m (N41.8bn) out of the $155m (N58.9bn) stolen by late dictator, Sani Abacha, Bloomberg reports.

The US, the UK and Nigeria are involved in a dispute over investment portfolios worth $155m traced to Abacha and held in trust for Bagudu and his family.

Nigeria is seeking the approval of a UK court for Nigeria to take ownership of the assets before returning 70 per cent of the proceeds to Bagudu under the terms of a 2018 deal.

Nigeria’s Attorney-General, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has denied ever entering a deal with Bagudu but court papers say otherwise.

Wike: FG Politicising COVID-19 Response. Lagos Got N10 Billion, Rivers Got None

Governor Wike slams FG for politicizing fight against coronavirus ...

It is quite unfortunate that the containment of coronavirus has been politicized by the Federal Government. While Lagos State received a grant of N10billion as a commercial hub, #Covid_19

Rivers State as the nation’s oil and gas hub that produces a greater percentage of the nation’s wealth has not received any support from the Federal Government.#Covid_19

One wonders why the Federal Government should single out a state out of 36 States to give support. Does it mean that support will come when a State has a record of over 50 infected persons before it gets support. #Covid_19
