Wild Gorilla Follows Farmer Home In Cross River State (Photos)

There was reportedly commotion in a village in Cross River state last weekend after a gorilla living in the wild met a farmer in the bush and followed him home.

It was reported that residents of Bitiah Irruan village in Boki LGA of Cross River State all gathered at the farmer’s home to witness and see the animal for themselves as many said such incident has never happened before.

Trying to figure out why the gorilla followed the farmer home, some said it was possible the animal no longer had food in the bushes, so he followed the man home, hoping to get food from there.

Others insinuated it could be a sign of favour to the farmer, another said the gorilla lost his way while moving from Bumaji village to Bitiah where an NGO takes care of them.

Nigeria Bans Codeine-Based Cough Syrups After BBC Exposé On Addiction

Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Health has directed the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to immediately cease the importation of codeine.

The ban is specifically in respect of codeine as an active pharmaceutical ingredient for cough preparations. The directive is meant to curb an addiction crisis exposed by the BBC in a recent undercover film.

The BBC Pidgin and its Africa eye team put together the documentary titled ‘Sweet sweet codeine,’ highlighting the harmful effects of cough syrup addiction sweeping through especially northern Nigeria.

Okorocha Hijacked Officials, Kept Them In Govt House – APC Senator

Senator Ben Uwajumogu has accused the Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha of hijacking officials of the APC Ward Congress on Saturday and keeping them in the Imo state Government house.

Uwajumogu, while speaking with newsmen, said that Okorocha had earlier suggested that the team of officials for Anambra state be sent to Imo while the team of officials for Imo state be sent to Anambra. He described the move as ‘irregular’.

He went further to reveal that Okorocha ‘hijacked’ both teams and kept them in the government house until about 12 pm on Saturday. He added that the development angered members of the party in the state wh then proceeded to launch a protest.

A fracas broke out during the All Progressives Congress, APC meeting in Imo state on Saturday over the alleged hijack of the congress committee members.

Okorocha said that the result sheets for the conduct of the APC Ward Congresses in the State were hijacked/stolen as he called for the cancellation of the Congress.

It was also claimed that the congress committee sent from Abuja that was supposed to conduct congress in Imo state, was moved to Anambra state.

The aggrieved faction including the governor stormed the Police state headquarters to resolve the issues with heavy security presence at the police premises.
