A python has killed two young boys who were sleeping in an apartment above a Canadian pet shop, police said.
Police in the New Brunswick city of Campbellton say they believe the reptile escaped from its enclosure on the building's ground floor.
The two boys, aged five and seven, were found strangled to death in the flat above the shop, which specialises in exotic animals.
Police believe the snake escaped from the store sometime during the night, got into the ventilation system and then into the room where the boys were sleeping.
The pair had been visiting a friend who lives in the apartment.

Police have taken possession of the python, but still do not know how it managed to break out of its enclosure.
A New Brunswick police spokesman declined to give further details on the size of the snake or whether signs of strangulation were apparent on the boys.
Authorities said they were still waiting for the results of the autopsies to determine the cause of death.
Reptile experts have expressed scepticism over the incident, saying it would be extremely rare for a constrictor to attack two young boys.
"It's difficult to believe," director of Montreal Ecomuseum Zoo director David Rogrigue said.
This type of accident would be "an isolated case and very, very extraordinary, and very improbable," he said.
These snakes typically bite to defend themselves and use strangulation solely for their prey.
"Strangling is really linked to the feeding of the animal," he said, explaining the behaviour "is stimulated by hunger and by the odour of the prey."

The city's deputy mayor says the community is in shock.
In 2009, New Brunswick changed its laws to allow a wider variety of snakes, lizards and other exotic pets into the province.
Pet stores were allowed to sell non-poisonous snakes up to three metres long.
The snake in question was an African Rock Python, said to be 14 to 16 feet long. Even the owner admitted it was 'vicious.'
