Photo Of Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky Nigeria’s Islamic Shiites Leader After His Arrest By The Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army allegedly arrested the embattled leader of Nigeria’s Islamic Shiites, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, at a residence in Zaria where he had been hiding.
The Nigerian troops found the embattled leader of Nigeria's Islamic Shiites, Sheik Ibraheem Zakzaky, at a residence in Zaria where he had been hiding since Nigerian soldiers shot at his followers, killing more than 100 of them, including a son of the Sheikh.

Our correspondent also confirmed that Sheik Zakzaky escaped into hiding after sustaining injuries. In addition, Nigerian soldiers arrested more than 100 Shiites from different locations in Zaria, and handed them over to the police. A senior military source confirmed these latest developments in an interview with a correspondent at our New York headquarters.

He disclosed that the Shiite leader was found in a bunker-like location near his residence. According to him, the religious leader looked fatigued and had an injury consistent with bullet wound.

The officer explained that, contrary to several reports that Sheik Zakzaky was arrested on Sunday in a military crackdown, the religious leader had quietly hidden in the underground facility as soldiers battled with his followers in his residence and other locations owned by members of the sect.

The military source disclosed that Sheik Zakzaky’s injury was not life threatening. He added that the Sheik was being held at a military facility. Citing security concerns, the military source declined to mention the specific location where the Shiite leader is being held.
