A PCSO in Dorset raised the alarm about fake fivers, despite not actually spotting them being used.
Both Dorset Police and the Bank of England, which originally claimed the new polymer notes were harder to forge than their paper predecessors, are now investigating.

PCSO Sarah Dutton said on Thursday: 'Please be aware of counterfeit new five pound notes circulating in the area. Report any suspicious activity via 101 or 999 if it is an emergency.'
The Bank of England said it was not aware of any polymer forgeries being in circulation, but it had been notified of versions being copied onto paper in some instances.

Dorset Police is yet to clarify the reports from PCSO Dutton, but concerned police bosses have still warned the public to be alert to possible forgeries.
It is believed that the notes were spotted in the Poole area and if people think they have spotted a forgery they should call police and not take it to their bank or building society.

Bank of England claimed the polymer notes were harder to forge than their paper predecessors when it launched the new fivers back in September
