Outrage Over Adeboye’s 3-km Long Church

The announcement last Saturday that the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, would build a three kilometre long auditorium in Nigeria has triggered outrage among Nigerians who call the humongous investment a waste and another cofirmation that Nigerian churches are veering off the teachings of Jesus Christ.

The General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, announced during the Holy Ghost Service at the Redemption Camp in Mowe area of Ogun State, southwest Nigeria, that the existing auditorium which was built in 2000 with a capacity to sit one million people at once could
no longer accommodate millions of people who attend service there.

Adeboye said that the new auditorium which would be built at the mission’s camp ground at km 46, Lagos-Ibadan expressway would also be three kilometres wide. This will make the auditorium a humongous 9km square auditorium, and one of the top ten churches in the world in
area size.

The Holy Ghost Service was one of the programmes lined up for the 61st Annual Convention of the church and Adeboye promised that the project will start soonest and will be completed before the 62nd Convention in August 2014. He solicited for donations from members toward making the project a reality.

Two nights ago, I took a break from research work, decided to watch news on local television and catch up with goings-on in the polity. After the news, I was not quite enjoying an old movie flick, ‘Broken Arrow’ featuring John Travolta and Christian Slater, being shown on one of the stations and decided to flip to another station. My remote control took me to the 61st Annual Convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and I was just too happy to catch up with the Convention in my living room. Anointing can be anywhere, if faith is exuded like the Centurion.

Then before sermon, General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Adeboye made a special announcement. The church is to build a new auditorium, stretching 3km in length and width, and four times the size of the present auditorium, to accommodate many more parishioners, before next year’s convention. Everyone was naturally excited, particularly those who get to camp ground late and cannot be seated in the present auditorium. Then Pastor Adeboye shocked me with the following pronouncement:

“We need N1 Billion from ten (10) people, If you are one of them, please see my personal Secretary after we finish today. We also need N100million from those who can afford it, if you are in that category, please see my personal Secretary as well. Nonetheless, we need everyone’s involvement. If you can afford N50million, N20million, N5million, N1million to as low as N100, kindly make sure you participate. How many of you will build for the Lord?” All hands naturally went up in delirium.

Norway PM Jens Stoltenberg Works As Secret Taxi Driver [VIDEO + PHOTO]

Norwegian PM Jens Stoltenberg spent an afternoon working incognito as a taxi driver in Oslo, he has revealed.

Mr Stoltenberg said he had wanted to hear from real Norwegian voters and that taxis were one of the few places where people shared their true views.

He wore sunglasses and an Oslo taxi driver's uniform for the shift in June, only revealing his identity once he was recognised by his passengers.

This criminal indulgence, we have been told, cost the nation over five hundred billions of Naira in the last few years.

This activity has also tasked the capacity of maritime and security agencies.

Not so long ago women without children, like me, were pitied. But now the world has caught on to the fact that, on the surface at least, we don't have such a hard life.

Angry landlord Sets Six Youths Ablaze For Smoking Hemp, Gambling In His Compound

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man, Mukaila Adebesin, for allegedly setting ablaze six people in Ita Balogun Compund, Ago-Oko, Abeokuta.

The victims are Adesanya, 20, Sulaiman Adebesin, 20, Saburi Seteolu 18, Raheem Bello 19, Azeez Alabi 20, and Kola Sodeinde 19.

 It was gathered that the victims were allegedly set ablaze by Adebesin at 7pm because they were gambling and smoking Indian hemp on his premises.

A witness, who pleaded anonymity, said Adebesin, a commercial bus driver, had  just returned from an outing when he saw the six youths in his compound.

Luggage charge leaves passengers stranded at Lagos airport

A new policy introduced by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria for passengers coming into the country to pay a special charge on their luggage has become a source of dilemma for travellers.

A lot of passengers, who came into the country on Monday, were stranded at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos as they could not retrieve their luggage on time.

Some of the passengers, who spoke to our correspondent, alleged that their baggage had been deliberately delayed, adding that they were also maltreated by the security personnel at the arrival hall of the airport, claiming that they were acting on FAAN’s instruction.

As Samaher Mezban suddenly began to give birth, Mokhles took his eyes off the road to check she and the baby were OK - only to veer into a ditch and roll the vehicle four times. 

Miraculously, not only did he, his wife and their two children survive, so too did their newborn daughter who they found lodged under the front passenger seat, her umbilical cord still attached.

Police in the New Brunswick city of Campbellton say they believe the reptile escaped from its enclosure on the building's ground floor.

The two boys, aged five and seven, were found strangled to death in the flat above the shop, which specialises in exotic animals. 

Police believe the snake escaped from the store sometime during the night, got into the ventilation system and then into the room where the boys were sleeping.

The pair had been visiting a friend who lives in the apartment.
