Ravenous gorilla slobbers against the glass as he desperately tries to eat fruit teasingly held up by visitors at his enclosure

It may be the cruellest of pranks to play on a starving animal - but the result was still a little amusing. 

On a visit to their local zoo, two youngsters teasingly hold up bananas in front of the glass as a ravenous gorilla salivates in a vain attempt to eat them.

Six-year-old Ella O'Brien and four-year-old Bridget O'Brien were pictured at Werribee Open Range Zoo in Melbourne, Australia, with the frustrated beast, Motaba, slobbering and clawing at the glass behind them.
