The Imo State Police Command has arrested 55 year old Juliana Dike for allegedly operating an illegal motherless baby’s home.
Parading the suspect at the Command Headquarters in Owerri, the Imo State capital, the Police said 16 children, including teenagers, were rescued from the orphanage.
The Command Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem, said that preliminary investigations showed that the woman, also known as Ezewanyi, had no license to operate the orphanage home and revealed that she was also involved in the business of selling babies.

Speaking in Igbo dialect while on interrogation, the suspect said that all the children and teenagers were all her relatives and that her poor financial state pushed her into selling some of the children.
However, while briefing newsmen in his office, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, said that the arrest of the suspect was one out of the numerous successes the command had made in the securing the state, especially in areas of kidnapping, armed robbery, car snatching and child trafficking.
He said that over the last 3 months, the command had rescued over 25 children from cases of child stealing, arrested over 16 kidnappers and recovered over 15 cars from car snatchers.
As the command continues to tackle the menace of child stealing, kidnapping and armed robbery in the state, they have also urged all Imo State citizens to cooperate with the Police by furnishing them with adequate and relevant information on any form of crime in their area.
