Baby Delivered Inside Amniotic Sac Stun Doctors [Video]

I doubt the doctors who helped deliver baby Silas had any idea what was going to happen when the baby emerged. As the video explains, Silas was born prematurely at 26 weeks via c-section, and he emerged into the world encased inside an unblemished amniotic sac. Doctors were astonished to say the least. Baby Silas was born to mother Chelsea Phillips who was unaware of the miracle that occurred in the hospital room until her mother showed her pictures of Silas inside of the amniotic sac.

I've never heard of a medical event like this before, which makes sense because they're extremely rare. According to BabyMed, this type of birth is referred to as an "en-caul" birth, which differs from caul births that occur when a baby is delivered with only their head surrounded by some of the amniotic sac. BabyMed explains, "Being born with a caul is rare, occurring in fewer than 1 in 80,000 births. This statistic includes "en-caul" births, which occur more frequently than authentic caul births." When responded to in the right ways, neither "en-caul" births nor caul births pose any real harm to the child.

Phillips definitely experienced quite the delivery with baby Silas. When we watched this video at the SF Globe office we were stunned silent. This incredible story is definitely worth watching! Tell us what you think in the comments section below when you're done.
