Host Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner of the Miss Universe 2015 pageant on Sunday night - and the crowd watched in heartbreak and horror as the crown had to be removed from the head of one contestant and placed on another on live television.
Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez wiped away tears of joy as the $30,000 blue diamond and topaz crown was placed upon her head and she was named Miss Universe 2015, winning the title for her country for the second year in a row.
But her glory only lasted for two minutes.
Just as Gutierrez was blowing kisses and waving to her adoring fans she was informed that it was actually Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach who had won the crown instead.

Just as Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was blowing kisses and waving to her adoring fans she was informed, on live television, that host Steve Harvey had read the results wrong

It was actually Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach who had taken the crown, and Gutierrez had to bend down and allow Former Miss Universe Paulina Vega to remove it from her head on live television

Just moments before Gutierrez had celebrated winning the title for Colombia for a second year in a row

Vega placed the crown on Wurtzbach's head and the telecast abruptly came to an end, before she was allowed a victory lap

Vega rested her hand on her countrywoman's shoulder as she moved to take her Miss Universe sash and flowers away

Vega then gave Wurtzbach a congratulatory hug for a victory she had just minutes ago believed had slipped from her grasp
