
In 2014, while still a Deputy Inspector, Olufunmilola Obe was named the new commander of the 28th Precint of the New York Police Department. Recently, the Nigerian-born Obe was promoted to the rank of an Inspector, becoming the first African to rise to that position in the history of the New York Police Department, NYPD.

Ms. Obe joined the New York City Police Department in 1994. She became a Sergeant in 2000, a Lieutenant in 2005, a Captain in 2008, and a Deputy Inspector in 2012.

This heartwarming feat reminds many of how tenacious Nigerians are in their endeavours. This month too, President Obama appointed Adewale “Wally” Adeyemo as his National Security Adviser for international economic affairs, and Bukola Love Oriola as member of the US Advisory Council on Human Trafficking
