PDP Condemns Ondo Speaker's Impeachment, Seeks Apology From Lawmakers

Mrs. Jumoke Akindele
Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has condemned the recent impeachment of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Ms. Jumoke Akindele and other principal officers.

A statement by the Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Ayo Fadaka, said the party would continue to recognise them as the legitimate leaders of the House.

He urged the PDP lawmakers who participated in the purported impeachment to apologise to the party or face its wrath.

Fadaka said the party was against the role played by the nine members of the party in collaboration with five members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said: “The House of Assembly is an integral part of government where decision-making must be jointly taken with decorum. The party demands that the lawmakers apologise to the state government and the party for intentionally misrepresenting us as looters.

“We also condemned them for assaulting and maligning the paymaster and urged them to apologise within five day.”

He said the allegation that the assembly’s paymaster, Mr. Makanjuola Adesina was intercepted with N15million cash was not tenable.

Fadaka condemned the purported leadership change and the assault on the paymaster, describing it as “unbecoming of members of that respected organ of government.”

According to him, it was undemocratic for “a few members of the House of Assembly to foster a regime of change on the assembly and the entire state.
Meanwhile, despite the crisis that has produced two speakers, Governor Olusegun Mimiko is set to present the 2017 budget today.

This was contained in the governor’s engagement schedule signed by the Chief of Staff, Dr. Kola Ademujimi.

According to the plan, Mimiko would lead government functionaries to the Assembly by noon.
