GOV AJIMOBI NOMINATES NEPHEW, AKALA’S SON AS LG CARETAKER CHAIRMAN

Oyo Gov. Ajimobi nominates nephew, Akala’s son as LG caretaker chairmen
Speaker of Oyo House of Assembly, Michael Adeyemo, announced names of Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s nominees for caretaker committee chairmanship of local government areas and the newly-created local council development areas (LCDAs) of the state, at yesterday’s plenary.

Adeyemo’s reading of the nominees’ names at plenary came a day after two splinter groups within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state had bloody clash, over alleged imposition of candidates and alleged lopsided appointments purportedly in favour of Senator Ajimobi Campaign Organisation (SENACO), against the Lamist, a group loyal to former leader of the party and former governor, late Alhaji Lam Adesina.
Governor Ajimobi’s nephew, Alhaji Teslim Ajimobi; son of former governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, Olamijuwonlo; son of the immediate past Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade I, Prince Gbade Lana, who was former commissioner for Information, made the list.

The governor’s nephew was nominated as caretaker chairman of Ibadan South East Local Government while Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala was nominated for Ogbomoso North Local Government, where his father was once a council chairman before he became deputy governor and later governor of the state. Also, Prince Lana was nominated for Ibadan North East LCDA.

Nominations were made into 28 of the 33 local government areas, and 29 of the 35 LCDAs, making a total of 57 nominees.
However, five local governments and six LCDAs were excluded from the list, making 11, based on litigation. Four, among the five excluded local government, are in Oyo Federal Constituency, which are Afijio, Atiba, Oyo West, and Oyo East and their LCDAs. Also, Oriire Local Government and its LCDAs on Ogbomoso axis were also excluded from the list

Adeyemo referred the list to the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters for further legislative action and added that the exclusion stemmed from the litigation against the state government in the affected five councils.
The suit was instituted before a Federal High Court in Abuja by some village heads (Baale) in Oyo Federal Constituency over boundary issues among the existing local government areas and the LCDAs in the affected areas. Adeyemo said the governor forwarded the nominees’ list to the parliament last week and urged the committee to expedite action on the screening.

Meanwhile, the governor’s wife, Florence, has tasked Oyo residents on peace and unity. She said loving one another is an injunction from God.
The First Lady said this at the weekend, during the monthly prayer meeting of Women Intercessors’ Network (WIN), which held at Government House, Ibadan.
Mrs. Ajimobi said her passion to improve lives of vulnerable women and children, as well as ensure that the less-privileged are empowered for financial independence, is borne out of love, as inducted by God.

She thanked all and sundry, especially women of God for their prayers; journalists and the people for their unflinching support to promote the goodwill of the state.
Commending prayers of WIN over the affairs of the government and its impartation, Ajimobi said: “WIN’s prayers are impactful; even my husband testified to the efficacy of the prayers and encouraged me to attend anytime the prayer meeting holds in the state.”
She noted that the prayer intercessors’ session is not a social or political function contrary to some people’s belief but a platform where people of God meet with Him to pray over matters that concern the state.

She also added that 2017 is full of expectations, saying to make the expectations come to pass, people must change their negative attitude and eschew foul statements against government and public office holders.
According to her, there is power in the people’s utterances which can bring about misfortunes, saying God’s promise is to do a new thing which can be hindered by their negative attitudes.

Earlier, in her sermon, Pastor Nike Etim-Bassey said God never reneges on His promises, saying: “God is always in our situation and any negativity in our lives are caused by the devil to cause frustration.”
