A schoolgirl was savaged to death by four dogs yesterday as she ate lunch at a friend’s house.

It is thought the two Staffordshire bull terriers, a bull mastiff and an American bulldog went berserk when Jade Lomas-Anderson, 14, began eating a meat pie.

As they tried to grab the pie, they bit her throat and Jade, who was alone in the house, was unable to fight them off.

Police using riot shields stormed the house in Atherton, Wigan, before marksmen killed the snarling animals.

But by the time officers reached Jade she was dead on the floor, bleeding from bite marks all over her body.

Neighbours said she had been staying with her friend Kimberley Concannon for the first few days of the Easter holidays.

The dogs were owned by Kimberley’s mother, Beverley, who referred to them as ‘her babies’ although a sign on the house reads: ‘Beware of the Dog... enter at your own risk’.

Neighbours said Jade’s horrific death was a ‘tragedy waiting to happen’ and that the dogs used to growl and bark at anyone who came near the terraced house.

One resident said: ‘The dogs were really scary – Staffies and bull mastiffs. Jade knew these animals so I don’t know why they all went for her. These animals were a menace and everyone was scared of them. It is shocking.’

The inhabitants of Buea Town are still to recover from the shock and consternation following the heinous killing of Pa Daniel Mbonde by his fourth son.

Former Zambian President Rupiah Banda was arrested and charged with abuse of authority in connection with the sale of Nigerian oil when he was in office.
Banda, 76, was released on 500,000 kwacha ($93,000) bail after surrendering his passport and will appear in court tomorrow, Namukolo Kasumpa, a spokeswoman for the Government Joint Investigative Team, said today. Investigators will resume questioning Banda on April 4.

“He totally denies any wrongdoing,” Sakwiba Sikota, Banda’s lawyer, said today by mobile phone. “He will be vindicated by the court.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Monday, rejected the application by the African Peoples Congress, one of the political associations in contention for the acronym, APC, saying that the association breached Section 222 (a) of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution as amended.
The controversial APC that had earlier pasted its posters all around Abuja had raised the alarm that INEC had plotted to deny them registration with no reason, saying that they would resist any of such attempts and would also contest it even up to the Supreme Court level. Update: Police arrested two teens suspected of shooting and killing a 1-year-old toddler in his stroller in Brunswick (GA) Thursday morning.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that police arrested the 2 teens Friday afternoon, after scouring school absentee records for their names.

Seventeen-year-old De’Marquis Elkins is charged as an adult with first-degree murder, along with a 14-year-old who was not identified because he is a juvenile, Police Chief Tobe Green told the AJC.

These shocking photos show how the bodies of seven men were found on plastic chairs in Mexico having been shot in the head, with threat messages nailed to some of their chests using ice picks.

A placard on one of the bodies, which were found early yesterday morning in Uruapan, Michoacan state, said: ‘Warning! This will happen to thieves, kidnappers, sex offenders and extortionists.’

Seven bodies had bullet wounds and had been placed individually in the sitting position in chairs near a roundabout, local authorities said. The local attorney general's office did not provide a motive.

Some of the bodies had their hands and feet bound, outside a Pepsi bottling plant. The men were believed to have been aged from 15 to 40. The bodies were found at 05:30 local time (11:30 GMT).

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio has publicly admitted to rigging the results of a 2007 senatorial primary election of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, in which he single-handedly replaced the winner of the primaries with his preferred candidate.
Akpabio made this admission when the National Good Governance Tour delegation, led by the Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku visited the state on the 9^th of March.
The confession was also caught on video, which went viral on Sunday and was available on the website of Premium Times, a Nigerian news portal.

Twenty-one governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today boycotted what was billed as a grand reconciliation to bring together disaffected members of the party. In addition, the Senate President, Speaker and several prominent members of the party failed to turn up, making the event “a woeful failure” in the words of one of the party’s prominent members.

The planned reconciliation took place at the International Conference Center in Abuja. It was also planned to celebrate the first anniversary of the party's National Working Committee headed by Mr. Bamanga Tukur.

The event started at 3 p.m. with only a single governor, Idris Wada of Kogi, in attendance. Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, the embattled chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, later arrived late. Speaking at the event, Mr. Akpabio said he wished to debunk newspaper reports that eight PDP governors were planning to leave the party to join the newly formed coalition of opposition parties.

Officials say gunmen attacked a remote town in Nigeria's northeast, killing 25 and freeing 120 inmates.

Adamawa State's head of prisons, Andrew Barka, said Sunday 120 inmates were freed in the Friday night raid in Ganye near the border with Cameroon.

Police spokesman Mohammed Ibrahim said 25 people were killed after the assailants also attacked a bank and a drinking spot.

The attacks come a week after men claiming to be members of the radical Boko Haram Islamist network said in an unverified video that they would not free a kidnapped French family unless Nigeria and Cameroon freed all the group's members from their jails.

Clothing giant H&M has lowered its standards and named Beyonce as the new face of its Summer 2013 women’s line, Hollywoodlife reports.

H&M is introducing Beyonce in the new campaign as, “Beyoncé as Mrs. Carter in H&M.” Her images will be featured in print and television ads. The ads were shot in Nassau, Bahamas by photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

Creative director Donald Schneider describes the campaign as an “epic fantasy, with glamour, drama, and also a sense of paradise.” Yes, “epic fantasy” is about right.

Johnny Gill Opens Up About His Sexuality

R&B crooner Johnny Gill was featured on last night’s edition of TV One’s acclaimed music series ‘Unsung‘.

One of the subjects that viewerstuned in to hear Gill discuss were the rampant bisexual rumors that have dogged him over the years.

Gill, 46, who dated R&B singer Stacey Lattisaw when he was 15-years-old, seemed conflicted when talking about the persistent gay rumors.

On the one hand he says he has “compassion” for homosexuals, but on the other hand, he says, “it just doesn’t feel good.”

A convicted rapist and cult leader known as Black Jesus, who was accused of murdering three girls and then eating their flesh and drinking their blood, has escaped from jail with 48 other prisoners.

A huge manhunt is underway in Papua New Guinea’s jungles for Stephen Tari and the other inmates, who broke out of prison in Madang in the north of the country while a guard changed shift.

About 2,000 extra deaths were registered in just the first two weeks of March compared with the average for the same period over the past five years.

For February, 3,057 extra deaths were registered in England and Wales compared with the five-year average for the month.

Campaigners at Age UK, which says 26,000 people die needlessly in winter every year, said the current weather could prove deadly for thousands more.

Director general Michelle Mitchell said: 'Colder, harsher winters tend to lead to an increase in life-threatening conditions such as heart attacks and strokes which in turn leads to a high rate of excess winter deaths.

'For every one degree drop in average temperature, there are around 8,000 extra deaths.'

The Office for National Statistics said the extra death rate 'could be to do with the prolonged period of cold weather we've been experiencing.' But it cautioned that it was too early to make an absolute link. The March figures are still provisional.

Malcolm Booth, chief executive of the National Federation of Occupational Pensioners, said that last month almost 700 of his members had died, compared with 250 last year.
