British grandmother, 56, breaks down in tears as Indonesian court sentences her to death for drug trafficking

Lindsay Sandiford, 56, from Gloucestershire, was behind bars today, above centre, contemplating her fate today after being sentenced to death by firing squad in Indonesia for attempting to bring in 5kg of the Class A drug on a flight from Thailand. State prosecutors had called for the housewife to be jailed for 15 years but she gasped along with the whole courtroom, right, when she was told she would be put to death for her crime. She was arrested last May with three other Britons. Julian Ponder, 43, could be handed a death sentence as early as tomorrow but his partner Rachel Dougall, 39, and other accomplice Paul Beales, also 39, were given lenient jail sentences last month. Sandiford, pictured left in her forties, had said she was forced to smuggle the cocaine because her childen were threatened, and will appeal against the sentence.
