Two contestants of the popular inter-tertiary beauty pageant, Face Of USAG, have drowned at the Cape Coast beach during a photo shoot session.
The incident, which occurred between the hours of 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, August 16, 2018, comes after the contestants defied orders from the Dean of Students of the host school, the University of Cape Coast (UCC), against the organisation of the pageantry.

The two, who have been identified as, Sara Kwarteng and Lily Ampofowaa Asiedu from the University of Education, Mampong campus and the University of Ghana, Legon, respectively, drowned as a result of high tides
The unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday evening leading to the death of one of them.
One of the ladies is still missing while two of them and a gentleman are on admission at the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital.
They were both on set for a photo shoot at Cape Coast Beach for the Face of USAG Inter-tertiary beauty pageant when the tragedy occurred.
The deceased, Lily Ampofowaa Asiedu and the other missing lady whose name has been revealed as Portia Owusu are said to be students of the University of Ghana and the Mampong Campus of the University of Education, Winneba respectively.
The body of the deceased [Lily Ampofowaa Asiedu] has been deposited at the University of Cape Coast hospital morgue.
The Director of Public Affairs of the University of Cape Coast, Major (rtd) Baah Bentum said the ladies, who were participating in the “Face of USAG”, were part of a group of students who were attending the annual congress of the University Students Association (USAG) at the University of Cape Coast.
According to him, the tragedy hit when a wave swept them off the rocks they stood on for the photo shoot.
Confirming the incident to the media, the Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Irene Oppong said the police were taking statements for investigations.
Meanwhile, the parents of the deceased have been informed of the death.
Our sympathies go out to their families and the whole University Students’ Association of Ghana(USAG) Body. May Their Souls Rest In Perfect Peace.
