Ondo Bank Robbery: 7 Dead, 5 Injured ,One Robber Caught


Seven people have been confirmed dead in the robbery attack on a branch of First Bank in Idoani, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State. An eleven-man gang of robbers had stormed the bank yesterday afternoon.

The robbers reportedly stormed the town shooting sporadically and broke the bank’s security doors with an explosive device.

The bank is said to be the only commercial bank in Idoani, serving the other neighbouring towns as well.

The robbers shot and killed seven people, including bank officials, a Police Inspector as well as two customers using the Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

The robbers showed up in an SUV and operated for hours before carting away an undisclosed amount of money.


An eyewitness revealed that two customers who were at the Bank’s ATM and five staff of the bank were shot dead. Some customers were injured as the robbers beat them to a pulp during the course of the operation.


The robbers gained entering into the bank after blowing its entrance with dynamite. However, luck ran out on one of them as he was nabbed by the Nigerian Army while trying to escape.

The bank robbery was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ondo State Command, Femi Joseph, who stated that he could not give details yet.
