PM News
It was a black weekend as a  childless man and his wife who  both
work with the Lagos State Government were crushed to death by a truck at
Ogere area on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, southwest Nigeria.
The
couple, Mr. Rotimi Olugbuyi and Mrs Toyin Olugbuyi, were returning from
Ibadan in their personal car to their Mowe home around 5:30 p.m. on
Saturday when the incident occurred.
It was gathered that the
husband and wife, who were in their 40s, were Public Relations Officers,
PROs, at the Lagos State Ministry of Information and attached to other
ministries to handle their publicity matters.
P.M.NEWS
gathered that the car being driven by Olugbuyi had a burst tyre in
motion and somersaulted to the other side of the road where a fast
moving truck heading to Ibadan crushed  them to death.
Their remains were gathered by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and taken to their Ogere office.
The
FRSC officials were said to have called the contact they saw in the
identity cards of the couple, which led to their easy identification.
A staff of the Lagos State Government, who craved anonymity, told P.M.NEWS
that  “they have been married for 13 years but did not have any child.
Rotimi and Toyin are very nice people that is why many PROs came to the
burial.”
Sources said Mrs Olugbuyi was three months pregnant when the incident happened.
Rotimi
was said to be a community leader in Mowe and many of  his colleagues
came for the burial and wailed as the couple’s remains were being
lowered into the grave.”
While Rotimi was said to be a level 13 officer, the wife, Toyin was a level 10 officer.
Rotimi
was the PRO of the Lagos State Scholarship Board, while Toyin was the
PRO of the Lagos State Judicial Service Commission. There was weeping
and wailing at the deceased residence at Church Avenue, Mowe where they
were  buried in their home in the same grave on Sunday evening.
Several
of their colleagues from the Lagos State Government Secretariat were at
the burial to pay their last respects to the deceased, whom they
described as good people, loving and officers highly dedicated to their
duty. A staff of the Lagos State Scholarship Board, who craved
anonymity, said “Rotimi was a kind man. I saw him on Friday. It is a sad
 situation.”
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Aderemi
Ibirogba, lamented the loss of two of his staff, saying it was quite
shocking and comiserated with families of the deceased.
