A portrait of Malala Yousafzai—the Pakistani girl who was shot by the Taliban for campaigning for girls’ education—painted by a British artist sold for $102,500 at an auction today at Christie’s.
Proceeds from the Sale of the portrait will go to the Malala Fund charity, and would in turn be given to Nigerian nonprofits that focus on education for women and girls in the wake of the kidnapping of more than 300 schoolgirls in that country.
Malala also joined the #BringBackOurGirls campaign by showing open support earlier in the week
Jonathan Yeo painted Yousafzai in 2013 after she started attending a school in Birmingham, England, where she now lives.
