MMA-trained convenience store worker uses skills to stop robbery

A criminal gang picked the wrong target when they tried to rob a convenience store worker in Texas, only to have a mixed martial arts-trained co-worker come outside and lay the attackers out with his skills.
Sri Lankan-born Mayura Dissanayake was working behind the counter of a Houston petrol station when his co-worker returned from a trip to the bank with a 4WD full of thieves on his tail, KPRC-2 reported.
Recently released security footage shows the worker being pounced on by three alleged robbers who began beating him as soon as he left his car.
Mr Dissanayake immediately snapped into action, running from behind the counter to the car park where he launched a kick into one alleged robber and threw a punch at another.
The alleged thief fell to his knees as semi-pro MMA fighter followed up with several more punches while another man ran to assist the workers.
July 16, 2014: A San Diego man attempted to hijack a car with a woman and children aboard. But members of the public had other ideas.
The convenience store worker then jumped to his feet and all three men walloped the alleged crook who had taken the boot to the face.
"We learned how to punch, how to kick…like how to move. All that stuff you can use in the streets," Mr Dissanayake told Houston's KPRC-2 about his fighting instincts.
The gang tried to make their getaway but a larger, slower member fell behind.
One solid hook from the MMA fighter sent the big man to the ground as his associates started to drive off in their 4WD.
Mr Dissanayake gave the alleged thief a few more kicks to keep him floored.
July 12, 2014: Two robbers armed with a knife attempted to rob a Ballarat milk bar but were scared off when the shopkeeper defended herself with a broom stick.
"(I) just kicked him till he just lays down on the floor, until he stopped moving because I wasn't he sure if he had, like, a knife or a gun," the cage fighter said.
The man was arrested when police arrived and although his accomplices escaped customers are referring to the episode of vigilante justice as a "feel good story".
Well, not if you're one of the bruised and battered criminals.
