Fatal Accident Leaves At Least Nine Dead In Osun State


According to Punch No fewer than nine persons lost their lives in a road accident which occurred along the Ile Ife-Ondo Road. It was gathered on Monday that the accident happened when a commercial bus, loaded with passengers, had a head-on collision with a truck.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Osun State, Mr. Umar Ibrahim, told our correspondent that nine persons died while three injured victims were rescued and taken to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital for treatment.


Ibrahim said, “There was an accident in Ife last night (Sunday). Nine persons died and three were injured.

“The dead victims were three male adults, five female adults and one female child. The corpses were deposited in the mortuary of the OAUTH and the injured victims were also taken to the same hospital.”

The FRSC boss said a preliminary report indicated that the accident was caused by speeding, adding that further investigation would reveal the real cause of the crash.

Ibrahim warned motorists against speeding and said FRSC officials had increased their presence on the road to ensure that traffic rules were not violated.

He advised commercial drivers to put their vehicles in good shape and obey traffic rules to forestall accidents on the highways.
