The is the moment a plane burst into flames, leaving its almost 200 passengers stranded in Florida.

The momen has been caught in hair-raising photographs.

According to The Sun UK, a piece of ground equipment caught on fire, spreading to the Aer Lingus plane while it sat ready to take off for Dublin earlier this month.

The plane was preparing to fly out of Orlando, Florida, on Thursday evening just before Hurricane Matthew hit.

Two airport workers were injured in the incident, with both taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Centre. However, no one on board the plane was hurt in the blaze.

The plane suffered obvious damage to its structure, with the blaze leaving scorch marks on the aircraft’s belly.

The airline issued an apology to its passengers, with many having turned to social media to complain their holidays had turned into “the trip from hell”.

At the time, traveller Colin Boylan told The Irish Times: “About two thirds of the passengers were off already when I saw loads of kids running from the airport window. Then I heard someone screaming and adults started running.

“The air hostesses were distraught and one was visibly crying. There was drama on the ground. We were about to board the plane, there seemed to be a rushed turn around to get us out of Orlando as quickly as possible.”

He said that the passengers had struggled with a lack of communication from the airline initially.

In a statement, it said: “The aircraft is still receiving maintenance attention in Orlando. It is expected to return to Ireland in the comings days.

“All guests from the cancelled flight, EI120 on 6th October, have been brought to their intended destinations.”
