Atletic-ole! Madrid's other team pip mighty Barcelona and their city rivals to claim first La Liga triumph in 18 years... now can they add the Champions League?

They were the little horse in La Liga's three-horse title race and they did not fall at the last.
Atletico Madrid are La Liga champions for the first time in 18 years after picking up a point at the Nou Camp despite a calamitous first half that looked to have put Barcelona back in control.
Both Diego Costa and Arda Turan were taken off injured in the first 45 minutes and a lightning strike from Alexis Sanchez beat Thibaut Courtois to put Barça 1-0 up but even the half-time advantage could not wake Barcelona from their slumber.

Match facts

Barcelona: Pinto, Alves, Piqué, Mascherano, Adriano, Sergio, Cesc, Iniesta, Alexis, Pedro and Messi
Atletico Madrid: Courtois, Juanfran, Miranda, Godin, Filipe Luis, Gabi, Tiago, Koke, Arda Turan, Villa, Costa
Costa was in tears on the bench after going off.
The Chelsea-bound striker must sense that next week's Champions League final will come too soon for him and that his niggling hamstring could even jeopardise his World Cup dream.
Courtois is another who has now surely played his last league game for Atletico with Jose Mourinho unlikely to sanction more Champions League heroics for a club other than Chelsea next season.
But both have signed off as league champions.
It was always going to take something special to beat Courtois and it came towards the end of the first half from Sanchez. The Chile winger's rocket shot found the Belgian keeper's top corner after Leo Messi had chested down Cesc Fabregas' long ball. It looked then like being the goal that would decide the league.
It had not been a typical Barcelona goal – fitting for what has not been a typical Barcelona season.
Their passing football has deserted them and they started this game without Xavi – the veteran midfield maestro left on the bench.

Lonely Hearts ads: Weekly marriage market in China sees parents post notices advertising their single sons and daughters (including how much they earn)

Setting their stall out: Parents study rows upon rows of adverts at the marriage market in Shanghai in the hope of finding potential brides or grooms for their children
It could be a missing persons wall set up after a natural disaster or even some kind of art installation.
But these rows upon rows of flyers are actually part of a marriage market where Chinese parents come to find prospective husbands and wives for their children.
Every Saturday and Sunday between noon and 5pm, regardless of the weather, the People's Park in Shanghai is crowded with mothers and fathers studying the Lonely Hearts messages that adorn the grounds.
On the walls of the avenues, on trees and on washing lines, hundreds of resumes are hung by parents often without the knowledge of their children.

The Battles Within Lagos APC Over Fashola’s Successor - Tribune

LANRE ADEWOLE examines the internal struggles for power and relevance in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State in the build-up to picking the party’s governorship candidate for the next general election.
THE unprecedented is happening in Senator Bola Tinubu’s political family in Lagos State, known as Bourdillion caucus. The ‘Lion of Bourdillion’ is not only being challenged openly over the processes that would culminate in picking a governorship candidate for their platform, the All Progressives Congress (widely tipped to sustain the winning streak of Bourdillion caucus since 1999), the famed exclusive internal conflict resolution mechanism that had reined in agitations in the past, clearing the way for the ultimate leader, is also being publicly jettisoned for once, with the decision of some aggrieved members to seek judicial justice in the face of alleged Bourdillion injustice over party congresses.

Those adept at political permutations know how invaluable party congresses at ward and local levels are to serious contestants and aspirants, and this must have informed the ‘mini war’ that those congresses turned in Lagos State, despite the formidable presence of the national leader of the party in the state, who allegedly played the cards of all contending forces in the power struggle by reportedly backing those who insisted on electing the executive members and future delegates to the governorship primaries as well as those who wanted the status quo of hand-picked exco members sustained in the name of ‘unity list.’

Revealing photographs of Boko Haram fighters have been taken by United States manned and unmanned aircraft as American military and intelligence specialists intensified the hunt for Nigeria’s missing schoolgirls.
However, US officials have expressed frustration with the country’s inability to act on these and other fresh intelligence about the Boko Haram extremists who took more than 200 school girls captive and threatened to sell them into slavery, The Los Angeles Times has reported.
“Images from US surveillance drones and satellites over the last week has shown suspected bands of Boko Haram militants setting up temporary camps and moving through isolated villages and along dirt tracks in northeastern Nigeria,” the report quoted US officials as saying.
It said the Obama administration has shared the images with President Goodluck Jonathan’s government in Abuja. “But Nigeria’s security forces are hampered by poor equipment and training and have failed to respond quickly,” said a US official familiar with the growing search operation.

The suspect’s accomplices fled in terror after seeing half his body get stuck mysteriously in the grave. His death has generated concern among the terrified residents of the Ilobu community.

Oba of Lagos Endorses Ambode As Fashola’s Successor - PDP Flays Akiolu For Endorsing APC Gov Aspirant

Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday condemned the pronouncement of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, at the public presentation of the biography of Akin Ambode, who has been endorsed as the next governor of the state by the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
In a statement by the Publicity Secretary of Lagos PDP, Taofik Gani, Oba Akiolu, purportedly endorsed Ambode and advised other aspirants to concede to him.

Gani said, “In a show of shame and an attempt to support the wish of Tinubu, the oba reportedly endorsed Akin Ambode as the next befitting Governor of Lagos State after Fashola. In a very undemocratic manner, the Oba went further to berate other aspirants to the office, counselling’ them to concede to Akin Ambode.
“Now that Oba Akiolu has openly manifested his partisanship and favouritism for a party and aspirant, we have no choice but to caution the Oba.

The visit earlier schduled for today, was cancelled amid apparent security reasons.

A Father Injects His Newborn With HIV, No one Would Have Guessed What Would Happen Years Later

Unthinkable: Brryan was just 11-months-old and in hospital with asthma when his father Brian Stewart injected him with HIV-tainted blood in the hope of killing him - https://www.facebook.com/diplyofficial
It was a story that made international headlines, a St. Louis area baby injected with the HIV tainted blood by his father who didn’t want to pay child support.
More than 20 years later, Brryan Jackson is amazed by his health, but his positive spirit and faith.
Brryan’s story seemed unbelievable in 1992, when he was just 11 months old, his father, a hospital technician, injected him with HIV tainted blood.
The goal was to kill Brryan so he could avoid paying child support.
“Anyone in my condition would die in three months they gave me five,” said Brryan Jackson.
But Brryan has defied the odds, even after developing full blown aids at the age of five. The road to get where he is now has been bumpy. When he was a toddler the side effects of one of his many medications robbed him of 70 percent of his hearing.

Nigeria’s homegrown, al-Qaeda linked militant group, Boko Haram, brags openly that it recently kidnapped about 300 young Nigerian girls. It boasts that it will sell them into sexual slavery.
Those terrorists have a long and unapologetic history of murdering kids who dare to enroll in school, and Christians in general. For years, Western aid groups have pleaded with the State Department to at least put Boko Haram on the official list of terrorist groups. But former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s team was reluctant to come down so harshly, in apparent worry that some might interpret such condemnation as potentially offensive to Islamic sensitivities.

US officials on Thursday slammed Nigeria’s “slow” response to the kidnapping of more than 200 schoolgirls by Islamic militants and renewed criticism of its military over its human rights record.
Democratic senator Robert Menendez, chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, said Nigeria had been “tragically and unacceptably slow” to deal with the crisis, despite offers of assistance from the United States and other countries.
“I have called on President (Goodluck) Jonathan to demonstrate the leadership his nation is demanding,” Menendez said.

THE MELANESIAN (AFRICANS) OF SOLOMON ISLANDS: THE WORLD`S ONLY BLACK BLONDES

Modern evidence, including DNA analysis confirms the opinion that modern man, in the form of Homo sapiens, first came out of Africa as early as 200,000 years ago.The Africans migrated along the coast of Arabia to West Asia to India; a branch continued across the major islands off Asia -- Indonesia, Borneo, Papua New Guinea -- and some as far as Australia, marking the first major sea crossing of humans; a branch continued along the coast of Asia to West Asia to China; from China a branch went westward into Central Asia, and then some southward into Southeast Asia, particularly India, while a branch continued westward into Europe, these together forming the Indo-European group and then the last major group went from China across the Bering Straight into North America and from there some continued into South America.
About a quarter of the Melanesian population in the Solomon Islands archipelago has an extremely unusual trait – dark skin with blond hair. The archipelago, located east of Papa New Guinea in Oceania, consists of a thousand islands inhabited by over half a million Melanesian people. They have the darkest skin in the world outside of Africa, but strangely, about one-fourth of the inhabitants sport blond afros.
