HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE OF HATRED BETWEEN THE YORUBAS AND IGBOS

I had the privilege of attending some meetings of the Yoruba and Igbo Leaders. I was not a leader but a youth who knew how to wash his hands. At one of those meetings in Owerri, I think in 1989, I think, I listened to Uncle Bola Ige and other Yoruba Leaders take the likes of Mbakwe, R. B. Okafor and others to the cleaners when the Igbo said the Yoruba were betrayers, citing that Chief Obafemi Awolowo led them into secession with a promise that if the Igbo left Nigeria, the Yoruba would follow suit. 

They accused him of not following up on his promise. Trust Uncle Bola Ige! He pointed to Chief Mbakwe and said, "you were there in the meeting between Awolowo and Ojukwu as I was. Is that statement correct?".He turned to two other Igbo and two Yoruba Leaders who were at that meeting and asked the same question, saying he had transcripts of the meeting between Awolowo and Ojukwu. 

Customs Officer Allegedly Shoot Driver During Heated Argument Over Bribe At Checkpoint

A driver was shot in the leg by a trigger-happy Customs officer following a heated argument at a checkpoint in Bauchi State.

According to the report posted by a Hausa Facebook page, the driver was allegedly shot by the officer while travelling from Kano to Bauchi.

It was gathered that the argument ensued after the officer allegedly asked the driver to pay a certain fee.

He refused and in the course of the argument, the officer shot him.

The houseboy of a naval officer, Lieutenant Abubakar Yusuf, has owned up to killing his 35-year-old boss and his girlfriend, Lorraine Onye, blaming the crime on frustration.

After strangling Onye, a 300 level student, the suspect, Raphael Jaja, stabbed Yusuf to death, packed his corpse in a bag and took it to a bush where he set it ablaze.

The native of the Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area, Rivers State, said he decided to end the lovers’ lives cruelly because his boss allegedly refused to pay his 15 months’ salary, but could afford to buy an expensive phone for the girlfriend and pay N300,000 rent for her.

He said the naval officer had promised to help him save the salary – N15,000 per month – and pay him at once so he could use the money to plan his wedding. He said he felt bad when Yusuf reneged on the promise.

FRSC Officials Retun N27M Recovered After Deaths Of 8 Edo Indigenes.

Earlier today, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) handed over the money recovered from the fatal accident that killed eight Edo indigenes on return from Spain for a wedding. The FRSC recovered over 65,780 Euros (over N27million) and other monies as they were handed over to the accident victims.

Married Woman's Lover Brutally Kills Her To Steal Her Acura Jeep SUV In Abuja (Photo)

A man who was dating a married woman has brutally killed the woman in order to make away with her Acura jeep. 
According to a report by The Nation, the FCT Police Command Thursday paraded 25 suspects for their involvement in murder, car snatching, armed robbery and other crimes.

The Command also recovered 8 guns, three cars, four motorcycles, seven ammunition, three knives, one generator and 12 street lights.

Two of the suspects paraded, Paul Chukwujekwu Ezengo and Emmanuel Adogah were arrested for allegedly killing Ezengo’s married lover in order to own her Acura Jeep.

The suspects after giving her excess alcohol, killed her, butchered her body and packed it into two sacks that were later dumped in a river.

Mr. Kola Abiola, the oldest son of the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola, said he made three attempts to make former President Goodluck Jonathan bestow the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic title on his late father.

Kola, however, said for political reasons, it just could not be done.

Nigeria Working With UK Govt To Deny, Revoke Treasury Looters’ Visas

Special Presidential Investigation Panel, SPIP, for Recovery of Public Property has informed that the Federal Government is working with the United Kingdom to ensure that identified treasury looters are no longer issued visa.

This came as SPIP announced the recovery of $7 million (N2.1 billion at official rate) illegally kept in a bank (name withheld), as well as N533 million and land worth N1.5 billion, all from the “previous management” of NEXIM Bank.

Chairman of the panel, Okoi Obono-Obla, disclosed this while briefing President Muhammadu Buhari on activities of the panel.

UK Immigration: Ministers Relax Immigration Rules For Doctors And Nurses From Outside EU Countries Arrive In Britain Before Brexit

Sajid Javid is planning a major relaxation of immigration laws before Brexit and will ease a cap on foreign medics working in the UK to allow the NHS to recruit more staff.

The new Home Secretary will remove non-EU doctors and nurses from the annual 20,700 'tier 2' visa limit on non-EU workers.

Other employers will be able to recruit an extra 8,000 skilled migrants a year, including IT experts, engineers and teachers, effectively raising the cap by 40 per cent.

The Home Secretary is expected to announce tomorrow that doctors and nurses from outside the EU will be exempt from the 'tier 2' visa cap to help the NHS fill staff shortages.

A man fed his foot to a group of friends at a dinner party after being forced to have it amputated. The bizarre incident came to light this week after the amputee told his story on Reddit.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday performed the investiture of national honours on heroes of democracy and tendered a national apology to the family of late Chief Moshood Abiola, for the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election which was adjudged to have been won by Abiola.

MKO Abiola and Ambassador Babagana Kingibe were the candidates of Social Democratic Pary (SDP) that contested the election in 1993.

According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the Police Command in Enugu have confirmed the death of a family of seven in an autocrash which occurred at Ugwu-Onyeama on the Enugu-Onitsha expressway on Sunday morning.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, said it occurred at about 8 a.m. on the Enugu axis of the expressway.

'I think that's true,' Trump replied, shaking his counterpart's hand and making what appeared to be joke that was audible to only the two men and their translators as reporters were led out. 

Spain says it will take in the 629 migrants left stranded in the Mediterranean after Italy and Malta REFUSED to let rescue ship dock at their ports

The rescue ship carrying 629 migrants which has been left stranded in the Mediterranean for two days will now be allowed to dock in the Spanish city of Valencia.

The Aquarius rescued hundreds of migrants, including 134 children and seven pregnant women, trying to cross the Mediterranean from Libya on Saturday, but ended up adrift off the coast of Sicily as both Italy and Malta refused to let it dock.

The rescue, carried out by charities SOS Mediterranee and Doctors Without Borders, had been coordinated by Italy's coast guard, but the newly installed government then refused to let the migrants disembark on Italian soil.
