Governor Bello Condemns Burning Of Dino Melaye's Constituency Projects

The Kogi State government has condemned the burning of four of Senator Dino Melaye's constituency projects in Lokoja, the state capital by some hoodlums.

Recall that yesterday, two of the secondary schools renovated by Dino Melaye to celebrate his 3rd year in the National Assembly, were vandalized and burnt on Tuesday night. Dino was meant to commission the projects yesterday Wednesday, July 18th.

Reacting to the incident, the Director General, Media and Publicity to the state governor, Kingsley Fanwo who spoke on behalf of government during an assessment tour of the burnt facility, said the state government has directed security operatives to fish out the arsonists.

"Irrespective of who is doing the project, the fund is from the government. So whether it is the executive or legislative, such projects should rather be applauded and not destroyed", he said.

Saraki, Wike, Tambuwal, Ortom In Defection Talks

Saraki
It was meant to be a gathering to pray for a politician’s mother, but yesterday’s session in Ilorin was more than that.

Politicians latched onto the prayer to smoothen defection talks between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Reformed-All Progressives Congress(R-APC)—the conclave of aggrived APC members.

The secret session was between PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus and some aggrieved APC bigwigs, led by Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Also yesterday, former President Goodluck Jonathan held a meeting with former Military President Gen. Ibrahim Babangida in Minna.

The two-hour meeting was described as “private”.

According to Dagen, 35-year-old Hossein Muhammadin had previously applied for asylum in Sweden, but was rejected and was facing expulsion.
Muhammadin claimed to be a Christian convert, whereas the Swedish authorities didn’t accept his explanation and decided he was to be sent home.

HND Certificates’ Long Road To Obliteration - The Death-Knell Of The Dichotomy Between BSc And HND

Image result for the death-knell of the dichotomy between BSc and HND

With the Federal Executive Council giving approval for the scrapping of the award of the higher national diploma (HND) and the approved submission of two executive bills to the National Assembly for enactment, the death-knell of the dichotomy between BSc and HND has been sounded

There was no fanfare when the announcement was made during the Federal Executive Council meeting held recently concerning the decision to scrap the award of HND by polytechnics. It was a subtle decision that drew no rancour or debates among the ministers in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet. The FEC also decided to limit the award of certificates by polytechnics to National Diploma (ND) and turn the institutions to campuses of proximate universities. This appears simple on paper but there will likely be issues ahead stemming from state government-owned and private polytechnics.
