2020: Obaseki May Defect To PDP

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki’s second term bid might see the light of day if the rumours making the rounds in Benin City about his alleged plan defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are anything to go by. Recent romance with big PDP chieftains in the state will further attest to the fact that the Edo Peoples Movement (EPM), top members of the APC ruling party in Edo, are not willing to make peace with Obaseki, hence the governor, who is popularly known as ‘wake and see’ is considering the PDP option. Fillers reaching Saturday Telegraph revealed that Obaseki and the PDP state Chairman, Chief Dan. Orbih, are currently in the US, allegedly holding meetings over his defection. It will also be recalled that the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, recently held a closed door meeting with Obaseki shortly before the governor traveled to the US. A PDP source, who is privy to this, said:

Remainer MPs WIN vote to seize control of Commons by 328 to 301 as they fight to block No Deal - leaving Boris Johnson poised to launch bid to force a snap election and Jeremy Corbyn dithering over whether Labour will back it

Remainers WIN No Deal Brexit showdown against Boris Johnson
Boris Johnson lost a crunch vote tonight that gives a rebel alliance control of Commons business - with the aim of passing a law to stop the UK crashing out of the EU. The victory for pro-EU MPs came despite Mr Johnson threatening to end the careers of Tories who joined the revolt by deselecting them. Mr Johnson is now poised to launch a bid to trigger a general election, having made clear he would rather go to the country than break his 'do or die' vow to secure Brexit by October 31. A motion to trigger a poll is due to be tabled immediately after the defeat this evening, and put to another crucial vote tomorrow night. However, the law dictates that two-thirds of the Commons must agree to hold an early election, meaning he needs Opposition support - and it is far from clear that Jeremy Corbyn will back one.

In a dramatic statement to the nation from Downing Street, the PM upped the ante by making clear a vote set to be forced by Remainers today will be treated as a confidence issue
The Prime Minister stood in Downing Street yesterday evening and insisted he 'does not want' an election, but warned that rebels would 'chop the legs' from the Government's EU negotiations if they side with Jeremy Corbyn.

But the PM’s hardline strategy has touched a nerve, with rebel leaders accused Mr Johnson of using the election to try and ‘purge’ opponents of No Deal - with up to 20 Tory MPs, poised to join opposition MPs today to try to force Mr Johnson to delay Brexit.

And last night Amber Rudd, the Work and Pensions Secretary, who has been a leading opponent of No Deal, told him not to take such a ‘dramatic’ step of kicking out Tory MPs and instead try to ‘hold our party together’.
