The plight of a teenage girl has been brought to the public over her unfortunate condition in Bayelsa state. The 15-year-old girl who is pregnant reportedly sleeps in an uncomplicated building somewhere in Yenagoa, the state capital, after falling out with her aunt. 

It was gathered that the girl was brought to Bayelsa state from Akwa Ibom by her aunt who promised to enroll her in school but never did so. Instead her aunt turned her to house help and allegedly maltreated her. 

According to the girl identified as Lovet, her aunt brought her from the village when she was in elementary five because of the condition of her mother who happens to be a stroke patient and her dad who is late.

178 Reps-Elect Endorse Gbajabiamila For Speaker (Photos)

Supporters of Femi Gbajabiamila say 178 newly elected members of the house of representatives have endorsed him for the speakership.

The incoming lawmakers endorsed Gbajabiamila during a meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

Gbajabiamila is the current majority leader of the house and is favoured by both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Muhammadu Buhari to become speaker in the ninth assembly.

The incoming lawmakers who had come from various political parties said the decision to endorse Gbajabiamila is devoid of partisan politics.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Onofiok Luke, member-elect and current speaker of Akwa Ibom state house of assembly, said the majority leader is the “best qualified” for the position.

He gave the number of his colleagues present as 178 but TheCable could not verify this claim.

Man Gets A Car For Returning N53m Mistakenly Paid Into His Account By The Govt

Comrade Benson Efeotor, a civil servant working with the Delta State Ministry of Finance (Project E-Delta), has returned the sum of N53,121,650, recently erroneously paid into his account by the state government.

In an interview with newsmen, Efeotor said, “I returned the money because I don’t have such money in my bank account.” He added that anyone who will say he was wrong for returning the money to the government is a “thief.”

However, on May Day, he was rewarded with a brand new car, courtesy of the Delta State government.

Seyi Makinde: I Cannot Pay 30,000 New Minimum Wage

The Oyo state governor-elect, Seyi Makinde, has said the state cannot pay the new national minimum wage of N30,000 just signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Makinde in a report in Tribune published on Wednesday, May 1, said the federal governments should have allowed states to negotiate the new minimum wage for their workers as the condition of living varies from state to state. 

Makinde told reporters in Abuja after attending the induction programme for returning and newly elected governors that he intends to negotiate with the Oyo state branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) because the state could not afford to pay the amount. 

He said the federal government lacks the power to impose a national minimum wage of states since Nigeria is a federation.

Suspects recount how they killed two Bureau de change operators and threw their bodies into a septic tank in Lagos after collecting thier N1.6m

Members of a criminal gang recently arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad attached to the Lagos State Police Command, have recounted how they lured two Bureau de change operators identified as Yakubu Musa and Hassan Umoru, to an uncompleted building in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, collected their N1.6 million, killed them and then threw their bodies into a septic tank on March 14th.

According to a statement from the state police command  the duo were declared missing by their colleagues after they failed to return to their office. The matter was reported to the police and during investigations, three suspects – Oluwatosin Olarewaju, Mayowa Olawuni and Babatunde Idris, were arrested in connection with the crime.

During interrogation, Olanrewaju said himself and their leader identified as Pencil, who is currently at large, planned the deal.

Mob Kills Nigerian Wrongly Accused Of Kidnapping In South Africa

A 34-year-old Nigerian, Samuel Nkennaya, has been killed while another Nigerian, Chinonso Nwudo is in critical condition in South Africa following mob attack.

According to a statement released by the Secretary of Mpumalanga Province branch of the Nigerian Union in South Africa (NUSA), Victor Ayanfe-Oyebanjo, Nkennaya and Nwudo were attacked following accusations that both men kidnapped Chinonye, a six-year-old girl, who unknown to their attackers was Nwudo’s daughter.

Ayanfe-Oyebanjo said the trouble started when Nwudo took his six-year-old daughter, Chinonye, to visit Nkennaya at White River town in the evening of April 27. Later, Nwudo and Nkennaya proceeded to buy food for Nwudo’s daughter, Chinonye, at KFC restaurant in the area. Shortly after buying the food, some bystanders raised false alarm alleging that both men kidnapped the six-year-old girl.

President Buhari Wades Into Case Of Zainab Aliyu Who’s About To Be Executed In Saudi Arabia

President Buhari has directed the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to see to the case of Zainab Aliyu who is detained in Saudi Arabia over the drug-related offence.


This was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who said Buhari directive was given two weeks ago after the case was brought to his attention.

Zainab Aliyu, a student of Maitama Sule University, Kano, was arrested by Saudi authorities on December 26, 2018, for allegedly travelling with luggage containing unlawful substance believed to be tramadol. If found guilty, she faces execution.

One of the men who hacked soldier Lee Rigby to death in 2013 is making a bid to serve out the rest of his sentence in a Nigerian jail with a VIP wing. 

Michael Adebowale and Michael Adebolajo killed the fusilier near his barracks in Woolwich, South East London and the former was given 45 years in jail for his part in the bloody attack. 

The 37-year-old is currently holed in in HMP Wakefield, otherwise known as Monster Mansion - but he wants to return to his parent's native land. 

Adebowale has even written to immigration experts asking for their advice, according to The Sun. 

FG To Take Delivery Of 10 Coaches From China In June

The Federal Government is expected to take delivery of the first batch of 10 Coaches, out of the 64 coaches expected from China in June 2019 to augment the available Coaches at the Nigerian Railway Corporation and for deployment to the Standard Gauge Rail lines in the Country, particularly, Abuja-Kaduna rail line to reduce the congestion created by the activities of Bandits and Kidnappers on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi on Saturday, April 27, 2019, when he led a delegation to China to inspect the pace of work on the construction of those Coaches at the Chinese Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) Tangshan Co., Ltd, China.

The Federal Government entered into a contract agreement with the company in December 2017 to produce 64 coaches to serve the immediate needs of the Standard Gauge Rail Lines in the Country and 10 out of the agreed N0s are ready for delivery.

Bandits Block Kaduna-Abuja Highway Again, Hundreds Of Motorists Unaccounted For

On Monday afternoon, kidnappers blocked the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway, forcing several motorists to abandon their vehicles and head for nearby bushes to avoid being abducted.  

The development has left many motorists and passengers unaccounted for, just as their belongings were stolen by the kidnappers. A journalist who narrowly escaped the attack reports that the incident happened a few kilometres to Katari village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State at about 3.30pm.

Nigeria’s Life Expectancy In 2019 Third Lowest In The World — UN

The United Nations (UN), has revealed that Nigeria's life expectancy is the third lowest in the world in its new report released on Monday. According to the United Nations Population Fund(UNFPA), Nigeria's life expectancy which is the third lowest in the world in 2019 is placed at 55 years. 

It was further learnt that the life expectancy of an average Nigerian in 2019, is only better than those of people in Sierra Leone, Chad and the Central African Republic. The three countries have respectively 53, 54, 54 years as their life expectancy rates, the report states. War-torn Afghanistan has 65 years; Somalia has 58, and Syria has 73.

The absence of National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his successor, now Minister of Works, Housing and Power, Mr. Babatunde Fashola and others at the commissioning of projects in Lagos by President Muhammadu Buhari is yet to be convincingly explained, going by The Guardian investigations. 
Last Wednesday, President Buhari commissioned the reconstructed Lagos International Airport, Oshodi Transport Interchange, 820 mass transit buses, ultramodern 170-bed Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialist Hospital. But the absence of Tinubu and others has continued to warrant a probe.

Although the former governor’s spokesman, Mr. Tunde Rahman, explained that his boss was not in the country when the event held, while Fashola was allegedly not invited by the incumbent governor and host, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, further issues yet to be clarified include, whether they were properly invited and given enough notice, among others.
