The judge who arraigned Dylann Roof sparked outrage when he referred to the 21-year-old's family as 'victims' and urged the community to 'rally round them'.

Charleston County Magistrate James Gosnell Jr told the court on Friday: 'We have victims - nine of them. But we also have victims on the other side. There are victims on this young man's side of the family.'

The bizarre statement prompted outcry from the victims' families in the public gallery, and a torrent of complaints branding him 'insensitive' and 'racist'.

And it has since emerged Gosnell was reprimanded in 2003 for using the n-word in court, when he told a black defendant: 'There are four kinds of people in this world - black people, white people, red necks, and n---rs.'

According to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, Mike Okoli, a 70 year old man has been arrested in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state for killing his 60year- old wife with a machete. The man, Ita Daniel Okpo from Mbiokporo village, attacked his wife, Alice Ita Daniel, with the machete while she was sleeping. The machete has been confiscated as an exhibit, now with the Police at the Force Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia.

Policemen from Zone 2 command, Onikan, Lagos, have arrested two persons who allegedly posed as daughter to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and an intelligence officer respectively, to Senator Buruji Kashamu, with a plan to poison the former President. 

The suspects identified as Peter Uwakala and Victoria Alaegbu, it was gathered, were arrested following a complaint by Kashamu at Zone 2, last month.

The suspects, it was gathered, met with Kashamu at a hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, on May 8, 2015, where they allegedly called the former president unprintable names and offered to poison him. In response to the complaint lodged by Kashamu, the command reportedly swung into action and arrested the suspects.

Bola Tinubu Raise Alarm Over a Plot Set Him Against President Buhari.

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has raised the alarm over a plot by some people to pit him against President Muhammadu Buhari.

Tinubu said this in a statement by his media office while responding to a report by an online medium.

The medium had claimed that Tinubu accused Buhari of moving against the party by helping Senator Bukola Saraki to emerge as Senate President.

However, Tinubu said he had never made a public statement about the National Assembly since Saraki and Yakubu Dogara emerged as Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively.

The former governor of Lagos State said he could never insult the President or castigate a government that he helped to form.

Smuggler Hides Pounds of Cocaine Inside Fried Fish

A batch of fried fish in a passenger’s luggage actually concealed smuggled cocaine, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Miami International Airport.

A passenger arriving from Jamaica Saturday morning was carrying fried fish their luggage, authorities said.

During an X-ray examination of the passenger’s luggage, officers said they noticed anomalies in some of the cooked fish.

Inspirational surfer Bethany Hamilton has welcomed a baby boy.  The 25-year-old pro surfer and husband Adam Dirks announced the news on Twitter and shared a first picture of the baby with fans. 'Blessed to welcome our son, Tobias, into the world! #stokedmomma,' Bethany captioned it.

Bethany, who became a global inspiration aged 13 when she climbed back on her surfboard after the brutal 2003 shark attack, revealed in February that she was having her first child with Adam.

Northern Group Warns Against Plot To Undermine Tinubu - North Still Grateful to Tinubu

A group under the aegis of the Patriotic Northern Coalition for Justice, Peace and Equity has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to beware of some politicians and elements within the party plotting to undermine the party’s chieftain and former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu.

The national coordinator of the coalition, Alhaji Babangida Sule Jnr, told newsmen in Kaduna yesterday, that Tinubu is the bedrock of APC and still commands great respect in his region and in the party, adding that any plot against his interest will be counter-productive.
