atmosphere at the St David’s Cathedral, Ijomu Akure, on Thursday, was that of sadness as wife, family members, friends and associates of the former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Ondo State, Deji Falae, wept profusely as his remains were buried.
Many of the people at the event, including the wife of the deceased, Ezeh; the state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko; his wife, Olukemi and other top government functionaries, betrayed emotion on sighting the corpse of Deji, the 43-year-old son of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae.ae.
Journalists, fellow commissioners and others at the cemetery could also not control their emotions as many of them broke down in tears while the casket was lowered into the grave.
Deji was one of the people that lost their lives in the ill fated Associated Airline crash that occurred while bringing the corpse of the former governor of the state, Dr Olusegun Agagu, to the state for burial.
In his sermon, Bishop of Akure Diocese, Rt. Reverend Simeon Borokini, admonished the people to be closer to God in their dealings in life.
According to him, death was the only thing that is certain in life, saying “no matter what an individual possess, it expires the day death comes and take one away.”
The cleric advised the people to be mindful of their dealings on earth, saying “one day, there will be a call to eternal rest.”
He said, “No matter what you have, it will expire the day you die. You will be called to eternal rest one day, it may be soon. You must know that the promises of God for mankind are true and just, be mindful of your dealings on earth.”
Governor Mimiko, however, described the late Deji as an industrious and humble person, who was ready to serve the people at any time.
The governor said Deji’s death was a great loss to the family, the state and the country at large, saying it had created a big vacuum.
