Jonathan Has Done Nigerians Proud - Ijaw National Congress (INC)

The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding victory in the just-concluded presidential election, saying he had made Nigerians proud by his show of sportsmanship.
The INC president, Boma Obuoforibo,  made the commendation in a press statement issued in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday.

“On behalf of the Ijaw ethnic nationality, we commend President Jonathan, for his courageous outing in the 2015 presidential election.
“He made all Nigerians proud by his unprecedented show of sportsmanship in accepting the verdict of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“His telephone call to congratulate General Muhammadu Buhari ,on his victory at the polls, even before the formal declaration of result by INEC, is a statesman-like act that has endeared him as role model for emerging leaders of our country and Africa.
“We congratulate Buhari on his victory at the polls and wish him divine wisdom and courage to lead our dear Nigeria into a new era of peace and broadly shared prosperity”, it said
The INC president thanked those who supported Jonathan’s re-election bid and appealed to them to take solace in the example of a democrat he had given Nigeria, and also to eschew any act capable of endangering the peace, unity and corporate existence of Nigeria.
In a related development, the Movement for  the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), also commended the president for conceding defeat without any interference.
The group, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, by its spokesperson, Jomo Gbomo, said Jonathan had displayed a rare outstanding show of sportsmanship.
“We also wishes to commend President  Jonathan for his outstanding show of statesmanship in conceding defeat and setting precedence as the first ever incumbent Nigerian president to be defeated and concede defeat, without any interference,” the statement read.
MEND also congratulated the president-elect, on his victory in the presidential election, saying it was a reflection of the wish of the people.
“The Nigerian people have spoken and elected  Buhari to be the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In doing so, we have not only made the right choice of a new leadership, we have also reaffirmed the strength of our democracy.
“President-elect General Mohammadu Buhari’s message of hope, freedom and opportunity resonates with our group, as it does with the Nigerian people.
“In these difficult times, with the economic crisis and security challenges, we are confident that under your leadership, Nigeria will once again regain its peace and unity”, Jomo Gbomo said.
