An adorable family pet lost his life saving his owner from a vicious cobra.
The snake had slithered into the back garden before the Yorkshire terrier killed it.

The 10-year-old dog saved the cobra from potentially attacking owner Louise Grobler.
She was on the phone at the time in their South African home.
Spike sacrificed himself because he was bitten by the venomous snake.

After being brought back into the house he ate and drank only to die half an hour later.
Louise said: ‘Spike was a hero, by attacking the poisonous snake he saved my life.’

The 42-year-old added: ‘I was so close to the snake, I think if Spike didn’t jump up and grab it by its neck, it could have bitten me as well.’
She remains confused that the snake found its way into the garden as they hibernate at this time.
The mum-of-four said: ‘But our neighbours were moving rocks, so I think the snake got frightened and came into our yard.

‘As soon as I realised what was happening, I ran next door to get my neighbour for help, but when I got back Spike had already killed the cobra.’
Louise’s 18-year-old daughter Mariska was left devastated – as were her four other dogs.

She said: ‘Mariska was heartbroken and cried for days.
‘One of my other dogs sat by him while he was dying, and kept crying when she realised what had happened.
‘Spike was also very protective of me, but never did I imagine that my little dog could save my life.
‘He was definitely the closest to me out of all of my dogs.
‘I miss him barking, because I knew if he barked somebody was here.’
