ENGLAND WIN THE WORLD CUP! Archer the hero in incredible super over as Morgan's marvels beat New Zealand

England have been crowned as Cricket World Cup champions for the first time in their history after incredibly beating New Zealand in a Super Over at Lord's.

England's bowlers put in superb performance to set a target of 242 after Chris Woakes and Liam Plunkett claimed three wickets each. However, England survived an almighty scare with the first ball after Jason Roy was saved by an umpire's call after he looked to be out from an lbw. Roy wasn't so lucky when he was caught for 17 before Joe Root was dismissed for just seven runs as England were 59 for two.

Eoin Morgan lifts the Cricket World Cup alongside his England team-mates inside a packed-out Lord's
Bairstow was next to fall before captain Eoin Morgan was superbly caught out as the hosts started to crumble. Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes steadied the ship with a strong partnership as they both reached half-centuries before Buttler was caught out with five overs remaining.

With England desperately chasing runs, Plunkett hit a shot down the ground but he was caught Trent Boult before he had the chance to catch Stokes in the next ball but instead the fast bowler stood on the boundary gifting six runs to England. Archer was then immediately dismissed for a golden duck with one over remaining. Incredibly, England fell one run short of reaching the target which lead to a Super Over.

Stokes and Buttler were the pair to bat for England's super over with the pair superbly scoring 15 runs between them to set a target of 16 for New Zealand to chase. Once again, it went down to the final ball in the Super Over and it was England who pulled off one of the greatest World Cup victories in history.
