Insecurity: Buhari Holds Closed-Door Meeting With Security Chiefs, Osinbajo

President Muhammadu Buhari is currently in a meeting with the nation’s Service Chiefs at the presidential villa in Abuja.

The meeting is also being attended by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), as well as the Comptroller General of Immigration.

President Buhari at the Wedding Reception of Vice President, Osinbajo’s daughter, Damilola Osinbajo and her husband, Oluseun Bakare at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The event, which witnessed attendance of some governors and top government officials, was held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The Vice-president had earlier taken to Twitter to announce the wedding. Using his official twitter handle @ProfOsinbajo on February 14 he said, “With joy and praise to the Lord, Dolly and I announce the betrothal of our daughter Oludamilola Osinbajo to Oluseun Bakare.”

The senator representing Bauchi south in the National Assembly, Malam Ali Wakili is dead. He was 58.

A family source at his Gwarimpa, Abuja residence revealed that the senator woke up early Saturday morning feeling uneasy. He later slumped and was rushed to a private hospital in Abuja where he was confirmed dead.

The head of Angola’s ruling MPLA party, former president Jose Eduardo dos Santos, said on Friday that the party should wait until December or April next year before choosing a new leader to replace him.

The move leaves open the possibility that dos Santos will remain head of the party into 2019 despite previous assurances from the African strongman that he would leave “active political life” this year.

Dos Santos handpicked Angola’s new President João Lourenço to succeed him when he stepped down last September after 38 years in power, but held onto his position as head of the party, creating two centres of power in the oil-producing nation.

Hausa, Yoruba Clash In Lagos State

Some persons were feared killed as Yoruba and Hausa youths clashed at Gida Panli, Kotomola, in the Ojota New Garage area of Lagos State.

It was learnt that the clash broke out on Thursday after a Hausa youth reportedly beat up his Yoruba counterpart over a misunderstanding.

Some area boys in the area were said to have avenged the assault on the Yoruba youth, leading to the clash which spilled over to Friday morning.

Punch learnt that several motorcycles were destroyed in the melee while commercial activities in the neighborhood were paralysed.

South Africa’s Former President Jacob Zuma Faces Corruption Trial

South Africa’s former President, Jacob Zuma, is to face prosecution for 18 charges of corruption, the director of public prosecutions has confirmed.

They include more than 700 counts of fraud, racketeering and money laundering. He denies the charges.

Mr Zuma, 75, was forced to resign as president last month by his party, the ruling African National Congress (ANC).

He was facing his ninth no-confidence vote in parliament before he left office.

The charges against Mr Zuma relate to a 30bn rand ($2.5bn; £1.7bn) government arms deal in the late 1990s, before he became president.
